ok, so as foamy can vouch for, i've been talking about getting an 8 for a while now, the folks have pretty much agreed to advance me the cashola, and i'll pay them back when i sell my v6
anyway, one of the things they want me to look into is how much petrol it'll chew, so anyone who's got any of the following mods who could give me any info would be appreciated
anyway the engines a vn 304 with what the guy thinks is a stage 3 cam (it's lumpy and kicks in at 3k revs yella terra roller rockers, oversized injectors and a torque chip.
so if anyone's got any of these, give us a shout as to your average petrol usage.
cheers in advance
lol well they arent too bad.... highway driving will average about 13 litres per hundred with the cam
if your looking at a stage 3 crow cam package ive got a cam and memcal sitting here that i didnt use when i built my motor last.
want $150 for it and its never been used
forgot to mention, i'm calling tomorrow for an insurance estimate, but chuck one up if you've got a vn 8.
Like many other people would have mentioned when you buy a V8 you dont really care about the fuel economy, because if you worry about it whats the point of owning a V8.My VN 5L has twin throttle bodies (twin 60mm) highrise single plane manifold, stage 2 crane cam slightly more agressive than the group A vn cam, ajustable crow timing set,big extractors, high flow cat with single 3 inch exhaust turbo muffler and dumped at the diff.Cold air intake setup, modified memcal by greenfoam,3.9 gears in the lsd diff. But soon will be upgrading to yella terra roller rockers and bosch bluetop injectors and a another modified memcal by the best.My fuel economy isnt bad i roughly average 11.5 to 15L per 100km.Around town is a different story.I own V8's because of the power, the sound and the feeling when you stab that right pedal and feel your lips touch your ears.lol
(KRUPTOR)VN BT1 5L TTB's,MANUAL,LSD
well im almost 20, been naughty once, have a fair few mods.... insured for $16,000 and pay $2400 a year with SGIC
they were the only ones that would insure me with all the mods....
PM me with more details please.Originally Posted by peanuts inc

i get anything from 8.5-10.5 on the highway with cruise control on. around town i get 14.0-15.5, thats heavy driving lately, usually about 14.0 driving 'normally'
cam/chip/exhaust etc mine sits on about 9.7-11 on hwy with cruise on, around town 13-14. its also manual if that makes any difference? Also insurance through shannons for me is 567.11 a year, full comp rating one covered for 10.5k

if i go flat out every where i see 20-22 litres but driving normally (not like a grandpa) its around 14.0-15.5, the reading at the moment is 15.1 and that has been anything but a grandpa
hmm i usualy use the cruise button alot even goin like 60kms..
reckon i should get my injectors cleaned proper?
has the rotor cap and button been replaced? thats with leads, plugs, cleaned throtlle body and intake, tune, etc...... what have you done to it since you bought it?
cruise is not good for your fuel economy. Every little rise in the road the car will accellerate to keep your speed but with cruise off you just drop your speed by a few kays and then gradualy get it up to 60 again. I tested this in a BA falcon the other day; cruise at 60 and it was about 7L/100km but it was always giving it a squirt to stay at 60 and it would go up to 14L/100km. but when i was driving with cruise it just hovered around 7L/100km and if i needed to speed up to 60 again i would do it softly and it would got to about 10L/100km.
just something to think about
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
You have to drive BA/F falcons with a verrrrrry light foot to get good economy and if you leave a corner in one and the first thing in the road is a big hill you have to really baby them up to speed to get to stop them gulping down the fuel, being such a heavy car with not alot of grunt (not for the weight) it's pretty difficult. Cruise control just belts up the hills and sucks all your juice in cars like that. It's not so bad in something like a VN V6 but 5 litres suck the juice at an superb rate of knotts if you even give them 1/4 throttle![]()
my car only has 148 on it atm lol but since i got it i changed the leads , plugs ( due for change soon) , havent cleaned throttle body dono how.. intake i got SS inductions with bmc pannel filter and hsv airbox lid , foamies tune
does changing the o2 sensor do jack all? would my fuel economy turn to **** if i drive with the fuel meter sittting around the red?
the o2 sensor should definitely be replaced with a new one if it has never been changed, and does affect economy. now with the foam tune(which is probably why its chewing fuel), im expecting my economy to decrease, but still be the same (or around) the same driving sensibly.
