    Default Gearbox oil for T5

Just wondering if anyone knows the type of gearbox oil recommended for a T5 and how much of it is required for a refill from dry?

    Cheers

takes about 2 litres for memory and from factory your supposed to use a 20W90 or something.... or 30-75... its really heavy, but its crap.

    Use an ATF.

What if all the syncros have been replaced?

I did do a few searches over the net and it does apparently cause premature internal wear due to it being much thinner than gear oil.

If you have new synchro's, it will just wear them out faster. So I'd say you should start learning the double clutch.

A 75w-90 should work just perfectly. I'm thinking the full synthetic one from Castrol.

run ATF, standard gearbox oil is to thick. many people have complained about problems with the T5 that have gone away when changing to ATF. i've run it in mine (VN as the owners manual says) for years without a problem. holden also specify you add 150ml's of lubrizol with the ATF.

i just did an oil change on mine. looked up lube listings for penrite and Castrol at the spares store, and they both suggest DIII ATF with 150ml shot of Penrite lubrizol (VN-VS1 T5s). I ran it for a bit without the Lubrizol and u can DEFINITELY tell the differences in shift quality and noise. Put some in there and its smooth as silk, and just had the usual light T5 whine.

the full synthetic oils these days are just as good as what you require, b ut back in the day of the vn's, you needed a special lube to be added to the dexron 11 otherwise premature wear would occur.

Any of the oils listed above personally i'd stick with the dextron 3 atf and lubrizol

Yes gearboxes are virtually the same just different ratios and input shafts.
