    Default hall effect sensor

hey guys, my car (vn v8 manual) has been playing funny buggers on me for the past 2 weeks, id be driving along just fine, after about 20 mins of driving all of a sudden my car just dies, it takes about 5 - 10 mins before i am able to crank it over again, i have a feeling it is the hall effect sensor but i have no idea where to find it on the engine

can someone please point me in the right direction

Its INSIDE the Distributor. Quite a bitch to get to and test. Best bet is to take it to a auto electrician and see if they can test it on car.

Also check the crank angle sensor, maybe starting to fail.

When they get too hot, they stop working.
You can try running it till it stops then pour cold water over the sensor and try to start again within a few minutes.

Sounds like it - black plastic and the vanes under the rotor button pass through it?

The ignition modules (on the passenger side inner guard, above the airbox) are also a known problem.)

Also, the wiring terminals on the connector to the hall sensor can back out of the connector but probably not if it restarts after sitting.

    Any fault codes: 42 perhaps?

Correct, although the hall sensor and distributor together perform the same function.

the hall effect sensor is the crank angle senor on the 5 litres. im telling you right now the problem will either be ignition module, coil or hall effect sensor... i had this problem in my statesman and after it did it a few times i went nup, replace the lot... and it never did it again, and ran sweeter than ever.

I just did this. Ignition Module turned out ot be fine, I ended up replacing the whole dizzy (I suspected the HES) & since the coil was looking like it was factory orig, replaced that too!

Fine now. I got no codes, & very little warning that it was going to die, left me over 100km's from home when it went
