    Default Heater problems

    Hey all,

Have been trying to find out why my heater doesnt work at all in my vp. Just wanted to know if anyone has had the same problem with there vn or vp and were can i start looking for the problem. I have been told that there is a small resister somewhere in the heater area (not sure). Could it have something to do with my thermostate or something else. Any sugestions would be great just to get me started.

    Thanks
    Dave

does the fan not work but warm air comes out of the vents when at speed after the car is warmed up? that could be the fan speed resistor under the wiper blades somewhere.
there is a tutorial around somewhere i have read on how to do it.
my heater works on 3 and 4 but not 1 or 2. i think it is my resistor, i have bought a new one but havent fitted it yet. its on one of those to-do lists along with replacing my handbrake lever. and cleaning the car

I just fixed mine, air came out of all the vents very weakly, but when i tried to change it between demisters / vents / feet etc, it wouldn't change. Did you have a look at the rod attached to the back of the heater / vent control unit (the bit next to your head unit where you change between hot / cold etc). There is a steel rod on the back of that, and the end of that rod, attaches to a white "control arm" that has a clip on it.

That white plastic control arm must be pushed back as far as it will freely go (push it in the direction of the engine bay until it freely and easily won't be pushed anymore), THEN clip the rod into that. It must be closest to the engine bay as opposed to closest to the rear of the car. Make sure your dial on the heater is switched ALL the way to hot as well.

If not that, check all your heating / cooling system vacuum hoses and plugs. Check the vacuum line connected to the vacuum canister up in the guard in front of your front passenger side tyre (round black canister), also check where that vacuum line runs from the canister to your intake manifold.

there is no hot air that comes out of the vents at all. The heater fan works only on 1 and 4 speed. Wont work on 2 and 3 not sure what the go is there. But it doesnt blow any hot air at all just cold. Have a feeling it is the thermostat so i might start there and change that first.

This may explain why my car runs very cold all the time. Not sure why someone would have taken it out.
