Default doing fuel filter, what do i need?

ok, so after my cars stalling/speedo breaking (now all fixed) i figured i should do my fuel filter too.

so i made a trip to ricerbarn and grabbed a ryco filter, about 30 cm of fuel hose and 4 hose clamps.

i've got sockets and all that, but is there anything else i'll likely need to get before i start this.

also should i run injector cleaner afterwards and if so whats a decent brand?

just make sure you have a couple of rags ready to catch fuel running down your arms towards your armpits when you take off the lines for the current filter

It should be a matter of:

    - de-pressurising your fuel lines (run car with no fuel pump relay/fuse till it stops, then a bit more)
    - jacking up the back drivers side of the car? (if memory serves me correctly) and jack-stand or something
    - slide under car with rags a flathead and/or a phillips head screwdriver
    - locate old fuel filter, undo hose clamps, remove hoses (and watch the fuel in your eyes/on your arms )
    - remove old fuel filter (wrap in rag first or you'll get fuel everywhere )
    - fit new filter and replace hoses + clamps (make sure it's facing the right way)
    - lower car etc (jump out from under it first )
    - remember to plug the fuel pump relay & fuse back in
    - prime the lines a few times by hitting the ignition

and you should be ready to roll! (have a shower or two before you go out or you risk being complimented on your gasoline perfume all night!)

I personally don't really believe in injector cleaner... if you believe your injectors are dirty, take them out and get them properly cleaned!

let us know how you go!

Take the rhr wheel off and you won't have to get under the car. You can reach it through the wheel arch.

    rubber gloves

the fuel usually runs up your arm into your arm pits and burns lol

but fuel in the eyes is the worst, once i took off my fuel reg, forgetting to depressurise it, BANG 40psi in the eyes of fuel.. i went blind for a good day.....

yeah i removed the relay for my fuel pump and it never stalls luke, just take a line off in the engine bay then put it back on :P so you dont get squirted

yeah so i did this today, not sure when the old one was last done, because it was genuine holden, and i haven't been for a service at a dealership for ages, so i think it's been a while.

just a tip, fuel in the eyes hurts, like really hurts.
i wore safety glasses, but pool goggles might have been better, cos it just sprayed and then ran into my eyes.

in hindsight if i'd had time to think it would have been the ideal moment to yell "my eyes, the goggles do nothing" but i was too busy walking into a picket fence on the way to the tap.

Yeah, goggles are really useless. They do nothing. All they do is stop your hand getting to your eyes when you spill

Having changed four fuel pumps and a handfull of fuel filters myself, I can tell you the best thing to do is just live with it. I've had fuel everywhere. Ears, eyes, mouth... these days I check leaks by tasting them to tell what they are.

Best part about getting petrol all over your body, is that it washes off much easier than transmission fluid, and doesn't smell as bad as coolant. The petrol mixes in with the grease and it all comes off together. Awesome times. Hope you had fun, pow3rslave!

Yeah, well... for a start you'd need paint to do that.
