I just had 4 new tyres put on my VL...

it also needs a new steering rack, and I just bought a 12 ton hydraulic press, and ordered a full set of bushes off ebay...

I won't be doing any of the press bushes, I'll leave that to a workshop. I will be doing everything I can possibly do myself though. Ordered tyres today, got mates' rates on some brand new 17" nankangs, $500 fitted, balanced and aligned. One less thing to worry about

And apart from that short list, the underside of the car looks pretty damn good! The deadener is mostly gone but that's the biggest issue.

If you're doing all the bushes, go nolathane Not that much more expensive. And yeah, stuff like radius rod bushes will have to be workshopp'd.

ha, I took my car to pedders, to get a 28 point suspension check.

after they finished I asked if I could look under the car, and they let me, pointing out most of the problems to me.

I said I was planning on replacing the bushes myself, he told me I couldn't...

I asked why not, and he said I needed a 20 ton press....

so, I went out and bought a cheap 12 ton one

my bushes are on the way, going to start and hopefully finish over the long weekend.

    getting Nolathane.

Pedders handed me a quote for $3220 to replace pretty much everything in the steering and suspension... hmm...

I have no clue mate, but I am interested in doing it. Something I'll have to look into further down the track!

Unless my master plan kicks in and I find a VP Calais with a good interior and body, but a busted motor and frooted suspension for cheap and just swap everything over to that!!

Some places like Repco sell changeover suspension arms complete with new bushes

Yeah the lower trailing arms; I understand if you buy Nolathane items they generally come as a part of the trailing arm, as a complete assembly.

you can get spray on sound deadner, just put the car on stands and spray all underneath. Any overspray on the panels should come off easy enough

I've heard about that actually, is it as good as the factory stuff? I've also heard when it heats up it runs off. People having it run into their boot carpets and stuff when they were too cheap to use Dynamat..

dunno about that, i used it in my engine bay and it looks exactly the same as when i put it on there. To be honest it doesnt do much but it does reduce a tiny bit of noise

wtf do they wanna crush your car with the 20 tonne press? like seriously! i have a 6 tonne press and it done all the bushes easy (every bush in me vn was done by this press and i had no problems)....a 12 tonne should be plenty ...have fun

They probably just said 20 because they use a 20-tonne themselves, that'd make sense... after tyres maybe bushes will be next on the to do list. Either that or steering rack!
