hey
just windering if anyone would be able to tell me how to pull the the rear tail lights apart for my vp because i am looking to convert them to LED
so need to no if you can pul them apart or if u hav to cut then and if anyone has already done this could you give me some info as to how to do it .
thanks
Ive done it before.
If you look carefully you can see sort of clips/platic tabs that fold over the top and keep them together. They are also glued together along the seams. I got a flat head screwdriver and stanley knife and slowly pryed it open, the glue was that old and and fragile that the glue just cracked and they opened up. But yeah, it can be done, just dont rip them apart too quick, do it slowly. Maybe a heat gun or hair dryer to heat all the glue and connections.
Once done, you will see where the glue was, get some clear silicone and reglue them and DONE.
ive been looking into doing this for awhile now, just neva had the time, ive had the lights off and looked at those clips, but when i tried to open em up thye didnt wana budge, n last thing i wanted to do was crak tha plastic
let us no if u get goin on this project, as i might b askin for ur plans![]()
i had a bit of a go at it last niht 2 try get then apart but i brought new ones so the glue isnt fragile so its pretty hard i hav to get some type of solvent 2 try melt the glue does anyone hav any ideas as to wat to use
maybe heat the glue up with a soldering iron or something?
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
ive done heaps of them ..the trick is (as already been said) is to heat it up like even leaving it in the sun will help . However there are some that are glued with a different glue that is impossible to pull apart without breaking it into millions of pieces
Anyone got a pic of this conversion completed?
Cause we sell LED's at work that have the same fitting as the existing globes.
Looks like 6 or so LED's with a bayonet fitting on the bottom.
The way you guys are describing having to pull the light apart sounds like a different setup entirely. Would love to see a pic.
