Hi guys!
My VP commodore has been doing some strange things fuel wise, my car only gets ~400kms a tank (according to the Gauge where the fuel light never turns on)
First of all the most noticeable thing is the Gauge. At a full tank the gauge never seems to go right to the top. It gets to the second last line of fuel and stops. Sometimes it will go all the way to the top other times it doesnt..
Anyway a lot of the time the Gauge seems to be moving up and down ~2 bars while in transit. Once the gauge is all the way down, the fuel light does not come on either. (Not sure if its working, haven't tested it.)
Sometimes when I start my car there's a fuel type smell. Not sure why but it happens but it does.
Im not very car savvy, however I am interested in learning on how to fix these problems so that the car is more accurate. Im not sure if its to do with pressure or not.
Ben.

You say 400km to a tank but how many litres do you put in when you fill it up?
Because your gauge seems a bit dodgey your better off taking note how many litres you put in each time you fill and resetting your odometer at each fill.
Using this information along with the known tank capacity you can easily and quite accurately calculate your fuel economy and also know when your almost empty without even looking at the gauge.
On a second note if you drive round a long corner the gauge will probably wander a little and commodore guages quite often read a little badly as the home handyman that may of put it in may of bent the arm accidentally during installation which will give you the result you are describing of small gauge movement.
Hope this helps
