    Whats the point?

Just because you're lazy and you're dodgy doesn't mean other people want to turn their car into a ****box as well.

There is no real need to cut the metal in the shelf, if the speakers/magnets dont have enough room all you need to do is buy some nicely shaped spacers, they cost about $50 and look 100% better then sitting them in the shelf and also saves you the hassle of cutting metal and cleaning up.

well lazy yes dodgy....maybe haha but yeah heaps of vn-vs i have seen here have done it..... Like even the bloody pro people here do it and it gets passed through the pits etc.....mi not saying everyone should do it im only saying that a fair amount of people have done it and had no problems...i wouldn't do it again though and like my car ain't anything fancy but then again it ain't a **** box.....I wouldn't be worried about a couple of holes in the parcel shelf on it...i only cut a hole big enough for it to sit flush and i also strengthened it so realistically i ain't dodgy . .....however when i get a new one i ain't cutting holes in it

i hacked into the metal parts of my old vs once so i could hide the speakers under the parcel shelf and keep the stock look. (kinda regretted it afterwards)

then in my stato i just decided to get powerfull enough speakers that actually fit in the stock location its great having an awesome sound system thats hidden in all the factory locations. (had soundstream splits in the front, soundstream 6"s in the back pioneer deck, 2 12" pioneer subs, 1000watt pioneer monoblock amp & 480watt pioneer 4 channel amp) really miss that sound system ive only had stock ever since

only thing is theres no hiding subs least the amps were mounted neatly.

The previous owner of my VP has hacked into the metal of the shelf. I got it all welded up otherwise it wouldn't pass the RWC i got done when my car was defected.

Not worth it. But the parcelshelf, be careful cutting that too, it's only ****ty chipboard crap, it breaks very easily. A good thing to do is, fibreglass the WHOLE shelf, then re-glue the carpet down and then cut it. Then it has a bit of reinforcement.

What a load of crap, why will it make your car a **** box?Just because it is a new RW rule regarding cutting parcel shelf doesnt mean jack.If it was allowed to be done then nobody would even talk about it.If all lowered cars were now classed as unroadworthy would they become a **** boxes?I doubt it.This mod had been done for as long as i can remember.Im yet to see a car fall apart or cause an accident because the shelf was modded.

It's not a new law, it's been around for ages. It's a structural part of the vehicle. Cut a structural part of the vehicle, by law, it effects the structural strength of the car, therefore deemed unroadworthy.

Sure, your car may not fall apart, but that's law.

thats got to be the dumbest attitude I've ever heard. some people should stick to taking the bus and not molesting cars for a poxy stereo system. no the car wont fall apart of its own accord or cause an accident, but its strength will be greatly compromised in the event of an accident.

Glad you liked it.My VQ had 6x9s in the shelf and it had holes in there for 6in from factory.Very little was removed to fit the 6x9s.My VT has no speakers in the shelf but they have a removeable speaker sections that i can remove if i wish, will that make my car unroadworthy?NO
If its law then i dont really care.Dont start telling me that everybody here is that perfect.
    Dont like my OPINION?Then tuff.

I have 2 agree with most of the things u said but with the VT and its removable plate. Of corse that wont b unroadworthy coz they r ment 2 b removed hence y they r only tack welded 2 cater 4 speakers in the higher end models, our older cars dont have this option thats y ppl cut them.

My VP shelf was cut from the previous owner which kinda sucked coz i couldnt choose where i wanted 2 put my 6x9s but it dont bother me nemore it still sounds just as good and the holes have been passed from the pits b4 but u can easily hide the cut outs if cops try 2 look.

yeh thast true.... if its the law to not cut holes in the metal part and he is classifying it as a **** box. what about the law stating that the amount that you are allowed to lower your car is?...im sure there are more people lowering there cars to there guts ..."cause they think its cool" then there are people cutting holes in the metal.....so if hes car is lowered (like low..not saying it is though) then his car is a **** box???...remember its the law...when its the law your car becomes a **** box

If you cut your springs to lower your car...Then its a ****box yes. Lowering it properly with heavy duty lowered springs, shocks etc. is a completely different story.

The only reason you would cut the metal in the parcel shelf is if you are a dumbass. It doesnt need to be done, I had 6x9's in my parcel shelf without the need to cut the metal. If you don't need to, then why do it???

But WHY do it if you dont need to?! Thats what I don't understand.

If the speakers are installed properly, it doesnt need to be done.

I hate people cutting corners and that is exactly what this is.

I agree, waste of time and effort. Spacers are the sex, easily installed and look good, I have seen some BAD spacers in my time though, I got the fibreglass ones with grey vinyl that have a nice shape to them, not those black square bits of plastic, they look BAD. Ive seen home made box's spacers too, man did they look horible LOL.

reason i cut it is because i didnt want my speakers to be seen and i hate the look of spaces and stuff. Id rather the stock look. I just put the speakers in the metal shelf and cut holes in the wooden parcel shelf then re-carpeted over the top so now it looks like i have no speakers there at all.
Australia. Love it or leave it
