My central locking is going crazy! Every time i start my car it cycles appox 6 times; then it will cycle at random about every 5 minutes. I have noticed that turning on the lights, braking and indicating appear to trigger this. I have an immobiliser with remote if that makes any difference. Also when attempting to lock my car with the remote it cycles a few times usually ending up unlocked which really annoying. I have to wait tell my car is locked and immobilised until I walk away which can be a real struggle. I think if i didn't have the immobilser then it might keep cycling at random forever...
I've heard this can be caused by a loose/faulty main fuse. I've checked it and it looks fine. Anyone had and or solved this issue. Should i try replacing the main fuse?
Any ideas??
go pay an auto elec a visit and see what they say
i have a similar problem in my daily where i can turn the key to the off position and pull it out but if my foot is still on the brake the car wont turn off lol..
everything loses power when the key is turned except the engine
last time i went to an auto elec i got charge $130 for them to tell me theres nothing wrong...even though still was.
It sounds to me like you may have a intermittant short cct or wires have rubbed trough somwhere to earth or a bad connection giving dodgy voltages to the bcm. But im only clutching at straws really, but thats where id start at if it was mine, and possibly try swapping out the bcm with a spare if thats practical to do for you. But id be more inclined to see an auto lec for this one. Dont forget to post it up when it gets sorted.
A mate of mine had this happening on his car, it ended up not being an electrical fault. It was his back right hand side button not sliding down enough, it was sticking and then reopening until it could go down without friction. Use to cycle for up to 2 minutes and was worse in summer lol.
yeah i was going to suggest that too..
My car wont lock if a door is open unless i tell it to lock twice and it will over ride the warning. Just re opens doors... now, the locks will also fail to lock if there is too much friciton on the actuator... they will simply reopen.
My suggestion, have a look at each door as you lock unlock it and see if it does it smoothly or not... you may have to take your trims off and have a play with it but i reckon the fault lies there...
aZk.
my back right lock always goes up but sometimes doesn't go down...usually only in winter. It never gets suck half way. Not sure if this is the issue as i said above "I have noticed that turning on the lights, braking and indicating appear to trigger this". Anymore ideas would be greatly appreciated.
lol. get an exorcist
ill put my money on either a faulty actuator or an earthing problem.
Could i just disconnect the actuator and see how it goes?
yeh i've looked at all the central locking threads and no one has posted an answer.
My Calais did this with a dying battery. When the voltage got low enough it would cycle the crap out of the Central.
Replaced battery and all sorted. Crap earth will have same effect. Clean all your battery terminals and earth points up. Pull all the connectors apart one by one while you got the battery disconnected and check them for corrosion or crappy connection. Spraying them with Contact Cleaner may help.
i think your onto something there as the cycling got worse after I had the negative terminal disconnected a few weeks ago. i think my battery is ok probably the connectors as their 18 years old.
I cleaned up the battery terminals and checked earth points and the issue still exists.
take it to a sparky, they will pinpoint the problem in an hour or so, could be lots of things like a wire rubbing on the body (hardly visible) or the fsulty actuator like mentioned.
I might have missed it, but is it factory central or aftermarket?
Sounds like a bad earth / connection to me hence the lights thing. assuming its aftermarket try to follow back the wires and make sure they are fixed well.
Alot of aftermarket kits dont monitor the position of the rear door actuators so if thats sticky it wouldnt make any difference.
its factory central locking. It seems to cycle mostly when braking now. And still at start up and locking.
You could also try looking at where the battery negative cable attaches to the side of the engine bay.I had some weird things happening because the nut was loose and the car was not earthing properly.
One of mine gets stuck (in cold weather only) and one time all them went down and locked me in while I was just cruising down the highway. It's all stuffed up now anyway so I just removed all that crap :0 and open it with the key like a proper car
I had a similar problem on my VP several years ago. A wire leading to the doors on the pass. side running behind the body computer had gone bare and was shorting on the computer body. This was activating the door locks. It took the HOlden dealer 3 weeks to find the problem. The wire was replaced and it's been fine since.
i have an immobiliser...
Is it possible to disconnect the central locking to each door lock indipendently for testing purposes. By unplugging the actuator? Also joeallen, when would yours cycle? randomly or especially when braking? Locking the car?
