    Default LPG Fuel comsumption

Hi i am going to put LPG in my vn, i was just wondering what the average fuel consumption is on LPG. my vn is using 12-13L/100km so would LPG get the same figures?? or would it use more LPG??

i booked my car in to a place in a few weeks time. theres a problem though..my sub is right up agains the arm rest in the middle seat, so when you pull the arm rest down the sub is right there..when they put the tank in..its going to be hard getting the sub out if something goes wrong.

your tank will most probably go where the sub is(behind the seats)..thats where mine is. so the sub will have to be moved.

No, add 30% more for lpg.(of course individual results can vary.......this will be the line lpg fitters give you when the say it should only use 15% more) Despite any claims to the contrary this is what is achieved with fact lpg systems according to the official australian fuel standards.
    ie 15-17L/100km

no it doesnt mean lpg is an inferior fuel, its just how we currently price it and measure it on a volumetric basis. If we measured it per kilo it would be a different story.

mine is VN V6 S2 1991. gas system is Sprint gas. new gas converter, air hog filter. I am getting 370km from a 68 liters. some where about 18 liters for 100 km. My mate's Falcon AU2 got a bit better, 480 km from 80 liters, but that is a new car( newer than the 17 years old), and more high way.

mine gets between 14-16L per 100.. and thats with a bit of thrash.....

when my o2 sensor was stuffed i was getting about 18-19L per hundred and getting about 400-450 a tank.....

i say go for it i get that amount of km's out of $50 (well about 45)... what else can do that? and still have a fair amount of comfort/go?

Lpg isnt worth it, really. ive driven cars which run dual fuel, and running petrol yields alot more km's versus lpg. the only thing is lpg is cheaper..... think about it, would you rather get more power and fill up half as often, or fill up twice as often and get less power?

Something that people over look most of the time, also, straight out of the 'box' , buicks and ecotecs dont work well with lpg unless you get it tuned (more money) this is why you dont see any commodore taxi's.

So conclusion, buy the lpg, but you wont be saving any money. even if you do save a bit, it wont be until you have payed the 1000 dollars for the lpg setup.

    I wish you would!
Yes, basically the major attraction of lpg is it is cheaper, and thats why it makes cents to use it with the current price of petrol and lpg.

I just pointed out the cost of installing the lpg system and tune is about 15 weeks of fuel, and you chew more lpg than petrol. i was adding info that hasn't already being posted now its up to him to decide if he still wants to go ahead with it.

well with gas at about 65c a litre? and petrol at over $1.50? its 100% worth the money....

you get the government rebate, thats 2000... which leaves you to pay anything from 0-500.....

so if we are going to think about it... a full tank of petrol is about $100 for 60 litre's right?
OR you could get 70 litre's for around $45? i get 400-450km to a tank with a stuffed o2 sensor..... even if i did 2 tanks of gas it would cost $90 and i would be getting about 800-900km's.......

sorry mate gas is still better bang for buck, i would like to see a vn get 800km's for under a $100

and gas isnt as bad as people make it sound, you barely even notice the difference if your not thrashing your car so who gives a ****?
by the way you dont need to get it tuned on a dyno or anything, your gas installer will tune it so its good enough....

pretty much if your worried about performance then dont be a cheap ass, get petrol and dont have a sook about it... but if you want to save money then dont worry about the 5-10kw's you will loose through gas because the money you save is worth it

yes, gas is cheaper. the only problem is back fire, which make you buy lots of air fiter box.

Greenfoam, the old stubby holder trick doesnt work with most EFI cars.....The backfire an EFI car produces is way too violent for a stubby holder to combat! I have seen Ecotecs blow manifold lids off with a decent backfire.....No way is a stubby holder going to fix that!

Btw everyone, just so we are clear here i'm NOT running down gas with that comment!

yeah got to hate the backfiring..... only happened once to me, and that was my fault....

mine starts on petrol then switch's to gas when i rev it, well stupid me went to accelerate hard before giving it a small rev in park to switch it over..... backfired and i never found that part of the air box

but once in about 3 years of everyday driving and because of my own stupidity... cant complain

is the back fire related to O2 sensor? I checked with Gasman, he recon the loop for LPG do not contain a O2 sensor, if that is true, we should not get high consumption with a staffed sensor.

Closed loop control (O2 feedback) is required for LPG conversions that use it on petrol. That is stated in AS1425 -2003 and in the NCOP rules for vehicle mods. A 'stuffed sensor' will affect fuel consumption on a car with such a system.

yea im going to get gas ive booked it in 2 weeks time. im only going to pay $550 all up after the rebate. i already pay $50 for just under half a tank so gas should work out cheaper anyways. im only on my p's so theres not much in the power department. when im off my p's and get a v8, ill worry about power then. thanks for some of the info guys

    Yeah, tell me about it!!

I get about 14 - 15L/100km in my V6 VR auto. 400km to a 60L usable tank. I dont drive it too easy either.

i have a vp on gas and had some backfiring problems. changed the coil pack problem solvered. with gas your ignition system has to be spot on. mine has an lpg chip in it. 430klm from 62ltrs gas around town

yea i need to fix the ignition up because sometimes my car misses, especially when you put ur foot down and the revs are low. why is backfiring so common in lpg fitted cars?? is it because the gas has a low octane rating and the heat from the engine or something ignites it while it is still in the inlet manifold?

i dont know the reason... all i know is that gas has a higher octane rating....
