    Default trans coolers

just wanderin i got a vn 5.0ltr auto radiator just went im lookin into gettn a external trans cooler im pretty sure but would it be better jus to get a maual radiator instead of gettin the trans lines on an auto one blocked
and then fit the trans cooler

and are the coolers that much better than the built in ones in the auto radiators

There is a few reasons why external ones are better...

    Its mainly space and heat.

By having 2 seperate radiators, the heat from either wont effect each other. Thats a good thing, the second is that the external trans coolers provide more cooling space than the inbuilt ones do... again, a good thing.

My thoughts follow yours, by a manual radiator and have the external trans cooler. That way you dont have a redundant seciton in your master raidiator... If you have the cash that is.... but if you run the auto one then i reckon your just having a useless section...

Now, that being said, im not 100% sue on how they connect up, do they make the auto radiator redundant? or are they a piggy back?

    aZk.

run the radiator cooler as well it works very well and ud be crazy to disconnect it.
think about this, if u have a hot piece of metal, how would you cool it best, in water? or by waving it about in the air? the transmission fluid is much hotter then the radiator thus cooler ur transfluid.

if your up for a new radiator, i'd get the manual option (which shouldbe cheaper) and the largest external trans cooler you can find. best of both worlds

Talk to transmission specialists. I went through a similar exercise many years ago when I owned a VN. The unanimous advice was don't bypass the engine radiator as the heat from trans. is used to get engine to operating temperature etc.

every th700 should have a trans cooler, especially if your running a stall converter, youll literally over heat and fry the box.
