I was told when I had my exhaust fixed that an oxy sensor was not needed. Is this correct or not? Ironically part of the issue with the exhaust was the fact the oxy sensor was missing which stopped me getting a warrant due to the excessive noise.
oxy sensor missing will not cause excessive noise in the exhaust. It does stuff to your fuel mix and talks to the computer ect. Im not to sure, but only trying to help out, from what i remember reading is, the car will run without it, but it will run rich. Which would make it non compliant as far as emissions ect...
Anyone feel free to correct me/add to this.
Seeing your in New Zealand wasent the car made for running on leaded fuel? in that case u dont need a oxy sensor.

unless your VP is a BT1 it was designed to run on unleaded and has no O2 sensor. this should not cause it to fail a warrant.will not effect the exhaust noise (unless your exhaust manifold has fitting for O2 sensor without a plug in it.
fiting a O2 sensor with appropriate tune will see a increase in economy and power (like mine)

I wish! Nope. Mine is a stock standard VP Berlina wagon. I have since found out, through another theead that my ECUY temperature sensor has bitten the dust and therefore is the likely cause of what appeares to be a decrease in my fuel efficiency.
