    Default Repairs to heater

I'm sick of driving around without a heater, especially as the days are getting colder. I've posted up before but, i'll start from scratch....

A little while back, I turned the HVAC controls from cold all the way round to hot. On it's way, the knob seemed to give some resistance, so I forced it all the way round. The heater was working fine, got hot immediately.

I parked the car and left it with the heater turned on. When I jumped in it the next time, I turned it back to cold. Then, the next time I needed to use the heater, the knob would not go round to hot. It was stuck on cold. So, I pulled out the HVAC unit to see what the problem was. The metal rod was connected, and there was no problems with the control itself. So, my conclusion is that either one of the vac lines is blocked or fallen off, and is stopping the flap inside the heater box from opening up the heater. Or that the flap itself has just been blocked by something. It looks like the only thing I can do is pull the whole heater assembly out and fix it.

My concern is, I pull it out, and I still can't find the problem. I'm aware that I must pull the whole dash out just to get the heater box out.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Cheers,

    Sam

Hey mate, i am having the exact same problem.

I cannot turn it past halfway untill it starts resisting. If i put my hand up under the dash and force the mechanisim the nob is connected to, it snaps open and goes straight to hot. BUT if i turn it back to cold then go back to hot i have to do the whole process all over again.

    Any help guys??

sounds like the knob thingy is broke, can you unclip the metal rod and manualy operate the flap without any probs ? If you can go to the wreckers and just get a whole new plastic knob assembly thing, realy easy to install, ive had mine out many times for stereo's misc wireing and stuff.

Yeah unfortunately its not that simple :'( If i use my hand to manually operate the flap it still has resistance coming from deep under teh dash. Where that lever connects to. The knob is fine i think its the flap.. or maybe even a vac hose in the wrong place.. either way.. sigh...it shits me to tears and i will end up spending hours pulling it out to find out what it is

I dont mean to be a dick but as i said before its getting JAMMED. Its NOT THE KNOB. I have to FORCE the lever with my thumb untill you here POP (as if the thing that was jamming the vent has come loose)

NOTHING to do with the knob.

Are you sure the rod is situated into the flap properly?

Seriously remove the rod by pulling it out and turn the knob round to cold. Then push the rod into the clip for the flap

Also is the heater tap under the bonnet buggered?

    hhaha nice innuendo there lol

I ahve disconnected the heater knob rob from the lever next to the drivers left leg. It STIL gets jammed at the same spot untill i apply force and it goes BANG and all the way to HOT/RED (if the knob was connected)

Ill try it anyway and eat my own words lol but im telling you its something else.

yeah mate it had nothing to do with the knob at all. There was something jammed in between the rod that connects to the knob and the flap itself, if that makes any sense :P I think it was one of the vacuum hoses in the end.
