just woundering if i could get a bit of help with this one, ive been told my temp sensor might be stuffed, reason being is fuel consumption is greater than ever befor, now im not sure where it even is, they say whats happening is coz the sensor is not working it telling the computer the car is cold which is leaving the auto choke open letting more fuel in as the temp sensor cant tell the computer the car is warm. i drive a 93 vp v6, and help would be good thanks
Would be referring to the coolant temp sensor which is located on the front of the engine, but not sure what side. It just a small metal bar that has a wire attached that is screwed into the intake manifold/plenum of the engine, it screw's into the coolant passage to read the temp.
where would the best place to get one to replace it, what it worth
Autoshops lol, cant remember how much my last one was...should only be like $30 from .
This could be the case stuffed temp sensor will cause this problem.
The temp sensor for the ECU is not the one with the small bar with single wire going to it. that is for the dash gauge. the temp sensor for the ecu will be next to it and has a injector like plug going to it. change that and see how you go. they sell them on ebay.. or try Holden dealer they sell them new less than $30

You can get em from Holden dealers still or Motor Traders / Bursons.
I have the same problem in my ute, the guy i bought it off fitted a 6' K'N air-filter and disconnected the air-fuel ratio sensor in the carburetta to make the car go faster. This screwed my oxygen temp sensor. The sensor is located in the exhaust manifold. All you do is screw the old one out and screw the new one in.
Holdens go fast...very fast.

make sure the sensors are genuine, also replace the 02 sensor if it looks a bit hows your father.
I would just go directly to your local Holden dealer. I had to replace mine this week and it only cost me $NZ27.
It is really easy to fit. I just hitched up the tensioner, removed the belt from the alternator drive, removed the 13mm bolt on the right hand side of the alternator, cranked it up to the left, removed the connector, then replaced it. Just make sure when everything is bolted back together that the belt is sitting properly in it's grooves on the pulleys.
I suggest that when you go to put the connector on the new sensor that you put the U shaped clip back on it first. That way it is a simple push fit rather than having to fart around with the clip once it is on, especially if the connector end up with clip side of the connector facing towards the engine block like mine did.
Why would you take the clip off the connector? you don't need to you just push the clip in and pull and the connector comes off.. you're not supposed to remove the clips...
Because I couldn't reach it to press on it when I took the damed thing off :/
You could check your engine diagnostic fault codes to see if its producing a coolant temp sensor fault or any other fault for that matter.
heres the link

If it doesn't bring up a coolant temp fault it doesn't necessarily mean your temp sensor is fine either as people have posted on this website this exact issue.
Oh and to get to the temp sensor which is located on the intake manifold behind the alternator its much easier to remove the serpentine belt and swing the alternator out the way.
hope this helps
edit: I forgot to mention the coolant temp sensor for the computer is the two wire device not the singe wire which is the for the gauge on the dash
