Unhappy Idler Arm shaking about when in traffic not all the time

Ive just had the balancer replaced with new one and cost me a bit anyhow the Last 2 weeks when Im in traffic and foots on the brake I can feel a slight vibration anyhow today I got someone to sit in car with foot on brake and I had bonnet up and the Idler Arm was now and then shaking but sometimes doesn't do it.It does not do it when cars in Park or neutral , only when cars stopped in traffic or similar. The car goes hard and does not make any unusual noises when driving.

Also When I checked the belt it doesnt seem as tight can move it like inch either way.Im thinking of taking back to the mechanic to get him to take of belt and put back on again to see if that helps.

It's the original one and never been replaced so Im guessing needs to be fixed.

What price range would I be looking at to have fixed by mechanic ??

fun job to replace, by memory the power steering pump needs to be removed to get the old unit off and put the new arm on, and its definately your problem.

Damn .... yeah the whole arm shakes about but only when Im stopped and in D or I just put car in Neutral at lights which stops it from happening.

Ok so I should ring around for best price then ..

I was charged $400 fornew balancer installed which is bad but was convenient for me as was across road from work.

I will ask him how to do it and see what he says lol ...

I guess I will call my old mechanic and other places to get best price.

    Thanx for your quick reply.

Im not that mechanical minded , im into fixing computers and laptops etc ..

How much would be fair price to have this fixed ?

the part cost about $150-200 alone so should only charge u around the $250-300 mark...thats what i cost me for my old vp wagz.........

its not that hard to do on ur own mate, just buy a Max Ellery's workshop manual, it will tell u how to remove and install. only takes about an hour or more.
    pretty easy really... cheers

thanks everyone for there help I will call mechanic across road from work and see how much he says ..... if more than what you have said I will take to mechanic where I live as He is very cheap and I have helped him with computer problems so.. just means I have to catch train to work for the day ..

Heres photos of my car ... the inside is as clean and looked after as well , I guess I need to take a photo of inside one day lol but lets just say its like new and the ashtrays have never been used as no one is allowed to smoke in it.

it's been resprayed , new shocks & new Bearing plates in struts, 2.5 exhaust & just spent $540 on new tyres , has same engine , auto trans , and diff which have never had or needed any work as always serviced...

I know exactly how the cars been treated from day 1 as was my mums car and she drives really slow so buying another car or a new car would be pointless as be buying some more problems , as they say they dont make em like they used to lol but when petrol hits $2 then Im gonna have to get a R1 bike or something.

yeah not hard to do at all yourself, just have some rags handy for when you remove the pump, once its out of the way you can remove and replace the idler arm easily.

Car looks good mate, if you have time have a crack at it yourself and if you get stuck there are people on here that will write up a step by step, its good when you get to do things on your car and think to yourself how much money you save from you doing it insted of some1 else, also remove the Pod filter its doing nothing, get the airbox in there and get a VS S/C CAI (cold air intake) on there and it will go alot better, good luck

I must say the car doesnt really do it till operating temp and has been driven like when im going to work but wont start doing it until im near work. Its like it has a slight misfire or something which would cause what im seeing.

I was talking to mechanic He asked me when was last time I changed plugs and leads.I changed the leads with topguns about 10 years ago LOL I know im an idiot I totally overlooked them but I had look today and where the rubber plug meets the cable there is a brownish tinge around 1cm on both ends of all leads lol & the spark plugs I put in 5 years ago which are those expensive ngk iridiums which im gonna take out and clean as well. The car still revs hard & Im getting good economy so Im sure sparkies are good.

So on weekend gonna buy a good set of leads if anyone can recommend a good brand ?

and also take out sparkies and clean them & put back. I was told the iridiums will last forever?

Anyhow Im gonna see if this helps if not gonna go with the idle arm.

Also Bz reason for pod as I got it on special few years ago for $70 at repco and I noticed an improvement right away with idle and good response & the car doesnt stall anymore.
    thanks everyone for there help.

The car would most likly go better with a CAI, but if you want to stick with the pod box it in and make a CAI to it so its not sucking in hot air from the engine bay.
