Default Slipping auto, takes its sweet ass time

    Hey,
I have a VN V6 auto and i am having problems with the tranny, i just did a service tonight and put new filter/gasket on it with new synthetic fluid and at full throttle going from 1st to 2nd it doesnt change smooth or change hard it takes its sweet ass time, and from 2nd to 3rd it will hold 2nd and wont change into 3rd at all full throttle that is, kickdown cable isnt the problem, is my auto stuffed?? some1 also put it across to being the stall convertor could this be the problem any help is great cheers.

yeah, auto is ****ed.... sounds like the clutches have gone.

    Reco Auto: 300-400
Rebuild Current Auto: 500-2k (Dependsing on what you add... servos, shift kits)
Convert to manual: 1k-ish.... (totally worth it)
    Drive with ****ed auto: $nothing

the band lining is worn, youll need new shoes for inside the transmission and possibly clutchpacks... how long will it hold up for? maybe a week maybe a year, can go at any time.

Was it doing the before you changed the oil and filter? But yeah, its too hard to tell how long it will live, all I can say is hurry up and get your parts that you need for the conversion.

not to sound like a smart ass here :P but is the oil leavel correct? otherwise id say kick down cable, but seeing that you have said its not that (kick down cable), then it sounds like the auto is getting a little tired

When i got the car it had a full service, and fluid levels where fine, and i just did a service on it again fluid levels are fine, and the car was playing up before i did the service on the tranny, thats when i did a service hoping it will stop playing up on me, also added some anti slip additive but yeah nothing.

KICKDOWN cable can be a bitch , I have had to adjust it on a few friends commodores and then car will change gears nice n easy ... there should be a guide on here somewhere as VERY easy even your mother could do ..

Check your kickdown cable position, reset its location if you have to. It's located on the throtle cable plate ontop of the throttle body, there is your accelerator cable which is going thru a black plastic thing , well next to that there is a silver type lever you can push in and your then able to move the plastic thing to the left so it goes all the way to the left now let go of all that and now get in car and put your foot on accelator all the way to the floor or if you know what your doing grab throttle lever and turn it around all the way.

this rests kickdown to transmission so changes gears at correct time and smoother.

well this is how I do it.

Also if your going to use additives then only use NULON.

I use all their products and they work for me so cant complain.

If this does not help then yes your trans is buggered.

Are you sure that you car changes gears ok?? sounds like it might be changing to early i hate cars that do that, when pulling up into a round about and then accelerating again and it wont go down a gear it labors but yeah, kick down cable is set at a nice changing point pretty sure its just the auto stuffed, Off topic abit but how much do adaptor plates go for from castle main rod shop, for auto engine to manual (both S1) when i save money up i will do it all and pull the engine out and put a wade 992a cam in it then get it chipped

Reading your post again, if you cannot change into the next gear up when going flatout it sounds like a kickdown issue...

But when you say it doesnt change do you mean it holds the gear or free revs??

Put it this way, ive done a pwr steer fluid change on a honda sedan and it worked fine before the fluid came out, as soon as i filled it back up it died.... the pump simply stopped working, in your case if its not changing gears that means the clutch packs/lining is worn, how could it be screwed just by changing to new fluid???

Have a shop look at it, from this point of view it could lean either way, some of your story says kickdown but some says a slipping issue.... any more info???

Kickdown cable is fine, i have played with it alot and still makes no difference what so ever, the Gearbox itsself is proberbly done 350*** atleast so its on its way out.

I didnt say it got stuffed after i did an oil change on it, it has done it all along, the gear change from 1st to 2nd is delayed and takes its time kinda clutching in and out, at full throttle mind u, and from 2nd to 3rd well it doesn't change (full throttle) it holds 2nd and revs and hits limitor.

When cold the gearbox also takes a good minute to warm up and select Reverse if you dont warm it up it wont go nowhere.

The kickdown calble is set to a nice changing point not to early and doesnt hold the gear heaps long, it still clicks into 4th when cruising at 60klm,
anyway the car has now done a flexplate and i am getting some more goodies to put my manual in,
