Default VN V6 steering rack into VP V8?

Just wondering, will a VN V6 steering rack fit in a VP V8?

My VP V8 has a leaking steering rack and the steering seems heavier than it should. I also have a VN V6 which is old and out rego but the steering rack is good i think. Can I swap them over?

    Thanks,
    James

Interesting, because the VN steering rack I tried to fit wouldn't go onto my VP back in the day. Took it to my mechanic, and he told me the VN racks aren't quite the same. He took it, and gave me a VP rack in exchange, which fit quite nicely

Thats what I thought. When ordering Reco VN/VP racks, they asked you build dates, engine size, model etc. I thought their were a few different racks, that why Im choosing to buy a reco'd rack off a trusted mechanic caus i know it will fit, I dont want to stuff around with a heap of different second hand racks hopeing one fits.

They are not the same, the shape of the thing that goes into the steering shaft is different, VN S2 maybe the same as a VP tho?! but there is a difference between VN and VP

ah so they are probably different. bummer. the VN i took the steering rack out of is a 1988 series 1. it has a spline type steering shaft. Am I able to swap over the top part for the steering shaft so it will go into the VP? Or alternatively, is it viable to swap over the steering shaft itself so it fits into the VN rack?
