hi all.
just swapped my car for a berlina vn series one and its started to make a noise and its getting worse..
it sounds like a very loud slapping noise against the block but its only there just on idle alot on 1 less on second and not much at all on third even with your foot flat.. however the car seems to not be able to rev out.
i removed the pushrods and found that some do ont have any oil in them and appear to be dry while the others are full of oil and it drips out when i remove them..
can a lifter that is blocked and not working properly cause so much noise or could it be somthing far worse...
if it is big ends or little ends can i replace them while the engine is in the car from underneath.. and any ideas on how much it would cost?
also could a dodgy oil pump make alot of noise like that?
as sometimes when idling in drive the oil light flashes on and its got lots of oil.
cheers all
i'm sorry to say mate, but sounds like a blocked oil gallery and you've spun a big end and the rods knocking just begging to go for a trip through the side of the block..
sounds like a flapping sound yeah?
take your inspection plate off and wiggle the converter, back and forth with a large screw driver jammed under the bolt bracket (u can move it easily left/right)
if it squeaks then shes farked...
u cant get the sump off with the motor in the car, pretty much motor out, u can replace the bearings but how bad is the crank? what caused it to fail? blocked pick up/oil gallery etc, whose to say if you replace the bearings its not going to do it again? whats to say that the crank isnt worn? you could sand paper it or get it machined and get oversized bearings...
id go with replacing the entire motor IMO
BUT if im just speculating... get a video of the noise i can tell u quickly!!! (i broke one before :P spun a few bearings)
