After flushing, refill resiviour to 100%. Run motor, and allow thermostat to begin to open, turn heater on. Then disconnect the heater return hose until continued flow of water appears. Reconnect. Shut down motor, refill coolant.

That's how i've done it, never had a problem doing so. If there is a proper bleed valve somewhere, someone please tell me...

(You can do the old inverted coke bottle trick, but it only helps remove gunk, it wont relieve air trapped in heater tap...)

    Question series 1 thermostat

is it very difficult to change this in the series 1, which appears to be at the rear of the motor,
any helpful hints or advice or instructions be greatly appreciated

Yeah should have thought about that you dont need one due to having a pressurised resiviour.

After flushing, fill it up, idle til warm, top up if required. Drive it for a couple of days, check it again. The VN S1 doesn't really need bleeding as the air will eventually find it's way to the reservoir.
