As far as performance goes theres not alot in it between a vr/vs! but i believe the ecotec is the better motor imo! As for the VT cannot say but it probably goes a little better again, but not much lol!

imo the ecotec kicks he vn's arse. But thats just from a driving point of veiw, as far as mods and working on it, then it might be a different story. Thats just my opinion, yours may differ.

VN FTW, VS probly handles abit better, but from 0-100 thats the VNs ball park, VS would probly take it up high but the VN is already infront and has the lead. my 2 bobs

My VN had alot more power than my VT
It was the second motor so maybe some work was done by last owner.
The VT has a better take off but at 110km the VT is sluggish... whereas the VN just wanted to Goooooooooo

I miss it but the main reason i got rid of it was the stoopid roof lining and its age. But i prefered the VN's power was a standard 3.8 4spd auto

In good condition they all go the same really, VN VP VR VS VT etc the VN is about half a second faster to 60 mph than the rest, that's all there is in it. In reality there all about the same level of crap engines

Run the ecotec maffless with extractors, 2.5" and a tune an you won't look back... Also go bank injection instead of sequential an you'll have all the power back that your missing.

    cheers

ecotecs are great standard but talk to anyone that builds them tough and once you put decent kws through them the key is a series 2 vn block. Rods are too short in eco's. The entire motor was shortened and tucked in to fit in the Australian model vs and so on. I have seen one of the American ecotech motors on ebay it was taller than our motors and was more powerful. scoop the bonnet and fit one of those...just my 2 cents

Have to agree with hozy misleading information posted there. There is no difference between american and aussie motors, they have the same basic design through all v6 models of the buick. External things like manifolds and stuff are different though.
If anything the later model block are better as they made a few improvements on them. Best bottom end is the L67 forget vn s2 - Vr go the ecotec.

ecotec blocks are better, they are 4 bolt mains for starter. the buick motor has stronger rods/pistons however (especially the VR models that copped the US turbo rods apparently). the ecotec piston has a much shorter compression height because it's the same stroke(but the block is 1" shorter), probably the reason the pistons are weak.

ecotec heads also breath a lot bettter.

there are aftermarket buick 3800 blocks in the US that are making in excess of 1500hp (turbo) so parts are available for a price if your real keen

The ecotec is shorter than the earlier V6 but the American and Australian versions of both are the same. It wasn't made shorter in height to fit in the VS, it was made shorter to fit in the FWD cars in the states. The series 2 VP/VR probably does have the strongest bottom end stock the Americans love it (EV6), MUCH better rods than the stock ecotec etc. It's about the same chunkyness as the L67. There was a post on SC once comparing Turbo buick parts vs EV6 vs ecotec and it was plan to see the flimsy little eco rods compared to the other two monsters

I had a VN s1 and now own a VS. Ecotec motor is way better imo. Alot smoother and also feels more powerful, but thats prob cause its in better condition. VNs were supposed to be quicker that VS's but the ecotec has more kws and i believe the only reason VNs were quicker is because of their weight advantage.
