    Default VP Ticking

I was wondering If Vp's suffer the same timing belt issues Vn's do ?

I Have 92 vp manual, and the dam thing ticks.........

Its a constant tick that sounds asiff it progreses into a rattle, it follows the rpm ( goes faster when you mash the pedal on the right )

Sometimes its pretty loud others its not, If you roll down your window you can definatly hear it.

The cars pretty bog stock, apart from a set of extracters, zaust and lpg kit,
I get the occasional LPG backfire but thats a different issue.

Any suggestions its driveing me NUTS......

The car only has 185 000 on the clock

could be injectors especially if its on gas they might be block. Use the old ear to end of a screwdriver trick and see if it coming from injectors

If its a subtle ticking then thats normal, just injectors working. if its a metallic or rattling type of sound, may be bearings in the front pulleys, timing chain , hydraulic lifters/dirty oil, transmission, etc.

The Injectors dont fire while the car is running on gas, ITs a manual, does it with the clutch in, in droping the oil tomorrow, a lifter i can deal with, a timeing chain that can be replaced, but if its something more sisnister, im affraid i may haft to burn it.

Sory guys, im at my whitts end with this car.

sorry should of read it was manual and your running on straight gas, most likely the timing chain or lifters, they can make the sound you described and sound worse than what it really is.

Take a rocker rover off and inspect for any loose rockers or anything out of the ordinary. Run an oil flush through the car and then change the oil to a 20w50 or something of the likes, your oil may be too think atm and your lifters may be sticking also.

timing chain or lifters aren't too hard fix chain is a pain in the car but doable. What i hate about the internet is trying to diagnose noises when you cant physically hear them.
Another one could be an exhaust leak. Does it do all the time or only when the clutch is is in? If so more likely chain

my car has a rattle that progresses through the rpm, sounds like a metallic sort of rattling noise.

what my mechanic told me is that when the serpentine belt gets dirt and muck in it (because it has grooves that run the length of the belt) it makes the metallic rattling noise which can easily be mistaken for a timing chain. if you have cracks etc in the belt then chances are its dirty as **** and replacing it could quite possibly get rid of the noise.

    they are loud ****ers.

Upon further listening, definatly right rear, If you get under the car it gets louder. Tightened all exchaust bolts checked for leaks, did flush, droped oil, no difference apart from sometimes, it goes very faint.

Since the oil change you can barely hear it on idle now, but once you get up to 2g its a clear as a bell.

A totaly unrelated question, does anyone elses heater suck arse ? If so how can i fix it ?

my heater worked fine you could check the actuator rod which is down on the right hand side of the center console in the driver's footwell sometimes the plastic clip is broken and they either moved or havent been set correctly not allowing the heater flap to open fully.

Oil changes lends some credibility to lifters making the noise. Another i was thinking is the rear balance shaft bearing is a common problem but let's not hope its that

I have discoverd that the car doesnt apear to have a rev limiter, Im thinking that the previus owner may have over reved it a bit. It will happly climb to 6g and make a terrible noise.

I have checked the actuator rod, Thats the first thing i did when the heater did not work, i also checked to vacume controled heater valve thingy under the bonnet, both apear fine, i have the heater somewhat working, its just enuff to keep ya from freezing at night. I even tried tieing the vacume valve open, it didnt make much difference.
