Question VN rear speakers vs VP rear speakers

Factory parcel shelf speaker locations changed between VN and VP somewhere didn't they? I have a VP Calais parcel shelf with the factory speaker grilles to go into my VN. I'm replacing my current 6x9s with some 6" Alpines and hoping to get them under the factory grilles. Do I need to cut any metal out or is it the same parcel shelf metal throughout VN/VP?? I'll take the shelf out later on and have a look anyway but if someone here could give some hints that'd be awesome.

OK just took out the 6x9s and the parcel shelf is coming out.. looks like there's a plate that's been spot welded in place to cover the VP speaker locations from the factory. Might have to knock that cover plate off each side to fit the 6"s in there, I'll soon find out I guess!

hrmmmmmm I do beleive I've noticed a difference between parcel shelfs on the VN and VP. I noticed it once when I was looking in the boot of one of them. But either way I think the speaker holes are the same size. DON'T CUT THE METAL, rwc void, insurance void and + **** off the next owner

Yeah there is a difference, I didn't cut any metal, just broke some tack welds off Two little 6" tin plates were held in place by 3 tiny spot welds each, I chiseled them off with a hammer and screwdriver and the speakers mount straight in to the metal of the shelf.

I'll finish the job off tomorrow for a nice neat factory-looking VP Calais shelf

you can knock the plates out with no probs (there for premium stereo option) my vl had them still in place. But do not make the openings bigger!!

Yep knocked them out last night, and no I won't be making them any bigger. It was obvious from looking at the plates they weren't providing structural support so yeah I just popped them out. I'll paint over the bare metal where the paint flaked off (about to do it now) and it'll all be good. Also resealing the quarter windows today, boot leaks.

Resealing windows can wait until tomorrow, parcel shelf took longer than expected but I'm happy with it all now so it was worth the trouble.

    Here's how it turned out:

Rust treated a fair bit of stuff under there as well so it should stay nice for a long time.

That's what I was after, hated the 6x9 look, it just looked butchered.

    Cheers
