hey guys does any one no of any majoe problems in th e1991 vp to steer me away from buyin one?? anything that wnet majorly wrong with thid year and model?????????/ thanks guys i have a vp lined up and its 5 speeed but its 1991

i got a 4spd auto vp on tuesday
so far ok, my ignition barrel seized tho but so far that cost me $40

just look for rust round the seals esp the boot and under the carpet,
i'm not sure exactly are some of the probs seeing as i havent gotten any..soz but just check for rattles koz they normally cost $$$ in holdens

Hey I have a Vp calais 1992 model and I found that the most major problem i have is that my boot leaks. I have heard this i common in vn-vps and it can cause some damage. It has created rust in my boot and i bad musty smell, I have no idea where it comes from and i took it to a panel beater who said they would charge me $66 an hour just to look for the problem , but i would think it would cost a bit to fix as well. It will also limit space for a stereo if you wanted on.
Also if it has electric windows check them out.

Your boot leak is caused by the brake light seal between the brake light itself and the car chassis. It also (in rare cases) can be caused by a bad seal between the coloured lens in the brake light assy sealing onto the black plastic part.

If you take them off and seal them up with a new gaskets and some good old roof and gutter sealant, that will fix your problem.

BTW, if your buying a VP, you will most likely have to replace the ball joints.

im sure theres a post around here somewhere listing the common problems. in the vn vp section i think. do a search. but apart from that if it is a factory manual mate buy it. there like gold to find. u can always fix the little shit later

just thought i might mention i have a 93 vp and i had the leak and the musty smell i bought new tail lights so that wasn't my problem i suggest if you have re sealed the lights check the little plastic bit separating the c pillar from the rear quarter panel they could be your problem just pop them off and reseal them if they snap when you take them off they cost $12.80 from holden or check the chanel around your boot near the seal sometimes there are body gaps that cold leak asweel just a help neway let me know if it fixed your problem it fixed mine no water dry as a wistle cya

i have found the the central locking is a problem that gets most of them, easly fixed,
also the bonnet hinge on my is sorta 'buggered' it fell into my windscreen *cry*
when the boot leaks it usally fades the tail lights, u can get paint from autobarn that fixes that right up
