    Default Vp V6 American equivalent?

Hi. i have a 4runner that Ive just converted to a VP v6 (was going v8 but to expensive on fuel)
It will need a rebuild at some point and doing some research into parts. I did see on wikipedia that its the same as the USA v6 3.8l Buick. If i was to get parts for the rebuild from the USA what would be the exact same model i would be looking parts for?

I might look for supercharger too but don't want to get the wrong one.

    Thanks in advance

depending on what you want to do there's a few options. America has 100 times more of an aftermarket available for our 3.8ltr motors than we do. I have done some research on the grand nationals (3.0ltr SFI turbos). They have 1500+hp v6's over there! I am under the impression that the grand national models are the vn-vp's over there. Search buick grand nationals and that should help you mate.

There is no exact equivalent between US and Aust./NZ engines but what they refer to as a Series 1 or L27 is pretty close to our Series 2 seen in late VN, VP and VR. There are also some minor differences between engines in those vehicles. Our Series 1 is roughly equivalent to the US LN3. The GN turbo engine is substantially different to (older than) the Series 1/LN3 seen in Aust./NZ.

I'm not sure if the engine numbers carry across between US and Aust. models but my recollection is that the engine blocks (and perhaps a few other parts) were cast and machined in the US before final assembly in Aust. so that may be a possibility.

If you asked (emailed) whichever US based supplier(s) that you were looking at buying parts from it may be that they can answer interchangability Q's as it's probably a fair chance that they have been asked about it already by someone else.

funny thing is, the parts they have over there for the vn-vr motors, most of it comes from us in aus, cams, rockers, etc are all aussie stuff.

move onto the l36 or the ecotec, and thats a whole other ballpark, they have heaps of gear for them over there.

in regards to supercharger, find yourself a M62 supercharger and lower manifold to suit the series 1 us motor.

honestly, if you;re going to rebuild the motor with addon parts, go an ecotec or l67. cheaper to get parts for and more parts readily available.

the only parts really worth buying for the pre ecotec stuff is the GNT double dot rods and pistons, as they bolt in with just a new set of bearings to suit.

Parts are reletively cheap here imo. Though i admit i get good prices through work but everything is still available i had no problem sourcing new piston in stock bore size (supposably hard to get) in fact the warehouse next door had them in stock only cost me $180 to. Race series rebuild kits are cheap considering what you get in them. ACL send a lot of stuff overseas.
Our work regulary send 100's of v6 heads to the middle east as its cheaper for them to buy from australia
