    Unhappy at a (coolant) loss!!??

hey lads , just wondering if anyone has any ideas! I have Vp berlina lx v6 i have just put in a re-coed s1 in it , using the s2 sump and pick-up, coil packs fuel rails and inlet manifold and also running it with the s1 computer and memcal as it has been dyno tuned, when i first kicked the motor over i realised that i still had a rag stuffed in the bottom radiator hose on the timing cover housing from when i painted the motor.I ran it till the thermo came on and then realised the rag was in there still.lol pulled it out anyways and ever since i have lost about 1L of coolant from driving it 4 about an hr everytime.there is no oil in my coolant and no white smoke(sweet smelling) coming out the exhaust!! is it still possible that i cracked the head gaskets and would a compression test confirm it 4 sure???

pls can sumone give me an idea as i have spent like $2500 grand already with the new motor and dont wanna waste $ if i dont have to

I had a similar issue but ended up being when i reset the inlet manifold the coolant was escaping into the compression chamber threw a part of the inletmanifold i repaired and left slightly raised afraid i would linish the surface.
You could not see white smoke at the time, until it got low on coolant and the engine constantly sat with thermo fans on, then ...faint faint white smoke.

If there is no coolant in your oil and you sure its not leaking, this coolant must be going somewhere, so if you let it run hot make sure she doesn't puddle, then id go to inlet manifold if you don't find your leak

Let us know how you resolve it

You said a S1 motor with S2 coils, sump, inlet manifold, on the S1 block the heads are different and there has to be a hole drilled into them cause of the S2 manifold, unless you are talking s1 vp and not vn

now i think about it i didnt use any rtv 732 sealant on the valley gaskets, but are u meaning the black hard plastic gaskets that go between the inlet manifold and the heads?do u have to use some sort of sealant on these too? sorry lads went from a 202 to this its a bit of a learning curve haha

so there are differences in the heads aye? would i have to take it to a workshop for em to work with the s2 manifold?

If you are saying that the heads are off a S1 VN, and u have the S2 Manifold they all bolt up but the radiator hose goes to the front of manifold and S1 goes to back, if you take the manifold off again have a look at the gaskets and i think they do need sealant of some sort would be best, then check if the left sideand the front of the head has a hole about a 10-20cent piece if not looks like you have to drill a hole it there, also if its none of that check if its leaking out the front of the water pump.

Sorry to ask stupid questions but could it be something like the radiator cap or heater tap... Is your overflow bottle connected and full? Does it suck water from the overflow bottle as it loses coolant ? If it was burning that much coolant you might see something on a spark plug? but i doubt you have blown the head gasket, i have heated my VS up real hot when the water pump died and did no damage. Try pressure testing the cooling system that should tell you if there is a leak, and where it is

i dont know man but yeh i am losing it from the the coolant resovoir cause a couple of times theres been a puddle on the tarmac under the overflow pipe going the the chassis rails havent hung around long enuff 2 find out if it is definitely coming from there yet but am thinking that theres a pressure build up in my coolant resovoir and its gittin pushed out of there!! at this stage its a bit of a mystery but will have to go thru a process of elimination with all d info the other lads have givin me next weekend!!

I was losing coolant through my resovoir recently. I was always low on coolant and my resovoir was always full and it overflowed on the ground after i parked the car somtimes. Was either 2 proplems, It was notsucking water back in after displacing it from when it was hot(possibly cracked rosovoir lid or split hose), Or i had a tiny leak and the system was losing pressure to quickly when it was cooling and wasnt sucking water back in.
I replaced the radiator cap with a 110psi one instaed of the 100 and i had a tiny leak i finnally found around the top hose of all places, but it was very hard to spot and didnt leak all the time, but i could see water marks from where it was leaking. New hose clamp and its all good now.

    yep radiator caps do that.
I have had 2 fail in the last month.
    Both on different cars.
