Smile Newbie and need help please.

    Morning everyone,
My eldest son is 19 and has a VP Wagon..auto 6 cyl..
The motor is noisy now and hes been told its a bearing gone..and his tappets are now going off their heads..although he looks after his car and uses good oil.

so we need to know..he has also a VN WAGON that a lady kindly wrote off first week the poor bugger had it on the road..after two years of long hard work on it. anyway heres the question..

can the VN motor fit the VP car..weve been told yes by some and no by others..any help would be great..seems stupid to save up and go buy a new motor if this one fits..

Id appreciate anyone who can tell me for sure..if these motors are the same..my son needs his car back for work and I (MUM) want mine back from him..LOL

I thought this place would be the place to ask any questions.
    thanks
    Kim.

the motors are pretty much the same, but it depends on a couple of things, mostly what series they are. vn motors came in series 1 and 2

the vn series 1 engine has no cap on the radiator itself, only on the overflow tank, and the radiator connects to the back of the engine. there might be other things but i can't remember, the flywheel is also different i think.

the vn series 2 is i think the same as the vp engine. which i always thought only came in one version, but i have read different occaisionally.

if you search the forums for differences between series 1 and 2 engines you'll find info to help you.

as said above it depends on the series of the car.
you can usually tell by year model. general rule is that
    88-90 were series one
    90-91 were series two.

if either you or your son are not sure just post up a picture of the engine and i will let you know what it is.

    hope this helps.

A series 1 v6 will not have a radiator cap on the radiator whereas series 2 will.
Series 2 is a direct swap.
Series 1 requires a few modifications to the head and the use of the vp inlet manifold to fit

Also series 1 mounts differently to the trans than a series 2/P

Pictures do really tell a thousand words in this case.

Please post photos & we can say exactly Yay or Nay
