hey guys, got a small problem with my power windows which has occured a few times in the past few days..
occasionally when i put my windows down, either one, two or all 4, they'll stop working. so when i press the button to put the window up nothing happens. and then roughly 10 minutes later they'll all of a sudden start working again. im just wondering at what i should be looking at to trouble shoot this problem.. im gathering its not a fuse or a problem with the motors in the doors or whatever theyre called.. so any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks![]()
Gday mate I had the same sort of problem recently on my VP Berlina, I replaced the window switches and the wiring loom to no effect. If they work intermittently its most likely the Power Window Control module which is located in the panel below the steering column. Its pretty easy to find and replace as its just a box about 20cms long and about 8-10cms wide. The reason the work intermittently is because the solder points expand and contract according to tempreture. After much trial and error I realised that my windows would only work when it was cold. The part cost me $15 my local wreckers. This is also a much cheaper option than replacing even a single switch as I have been quoted them to cost as much as $88 each. Good Luck
i think you can spray them with wd40 or contact cleaner or something. the relays in the power window module box

ah okay sweet. the heat thing would explain why its only happened recently, cos i like the heater on my feet lately. haha. must get warm down there from that more than likely. that probably sounds really dumb. thanks anyways guys!
this thread is a bit old, but its quiet at work today so why not have a blatt???
the reason the power windows all work/then all stop is because they dont have a fuse (which melts instantly when overloaded then has to be changed), they have a circuit breaker. So in stead of a fuse blowing when too much current is drawn thru it the c/b trips, then takes a while to cool down, and then works again.
It trips as you are drawing too much current thru it (or its is dying and trips prematurely). Try replacing the circuit breaker first. If that doesnt fix the problem you are proabbaly drawing too much current due to one or more of the power window motors dying. Is it one window that causes the problem? If it is, maybe lubricating the window running tracks or cleaning out the the motor (either by disassembly or cleaning spray [from dick smith etc] may do the trick.
cheers pete
ill post another question in here too. my VR has a problem with 1 window. the drivers window has stopped working. when i press the button for it, i just hear clicking under the dash. would it be a wiring problem, or a ****ed motor?

My VP calais has a similar problem but its only the 1 window on the left rear passengers door, it only works when it wants to.
could be an earthing problem, blown motor or the contacts need cleaning.
Yeah, motor is gone.
The clicking is the relay in the control box.
aZk.
yep i tested it. motors gone. anyone got one for sale?/

Hi there, we're having the same sort of problem with our SV6, the rear window went down and won't go back up, there's no noise at all, so it may be the motor? Any tips on how to get these out without having to take it to the dealer?
I had the same problem in my vs acclaim, ive taken the door trim out with the motor and everything else. im just confussed on how i'll put everything back without breaking anything.
has anyone got any tips or anything to make it a little easier?
thanks heaps
