Question V6 timing chain is 500,000km old. Hard to replace DIY?

Title pretty much says it all

What benefits should I see in replacing the timing chain?
What are the pros and cons of a double row chain?
Is it difficult to do at home?

Savage i wrote a little aritcle last week or so when someone asked the same question. IMO double are pointless they wont do anything that a good qaulity single can't handle on a v6 plus you'd have to remove your balance shaft as they foul on the gear. Stick wiht a good quality one like rollmaster or crow. As for doing it at home its not really hard may take a while the only problem is the sump gasket is bolted to the bottom of timing so some silicone will be needed to stop it leaking. It would be better to take sump off but that requires removing engine or dropping k-frame.
Anyways here's a the previous thread

timing chain is fairly simple to do. in regards to the sump gasket, i actually cut mine off flush at the block, so you end up with a piece of "V" shaped gasket. i put sealant where i cut the gasket, then i fitted timing cover and then pushed the "V" section of gasket between the timing cover and sump before tightening everything.

double row timing chain is overkill, i only fitted one because the ballance shaft was making noises and it was coming out, funilly enough, the double row chain was cheaper then the single row one.

My timing chain would make noises, horrid noises so I asked my mechanic if there was a point to changing it, he charged me just for the part and all it did was make this wooshing sound at low revs go away. Unless its rooted I think all you need to do is tighten it

timming chains can suffer from stretching etc....and on a 500 000 k engine it cant hurt can it lol. i replaced mine on me vn that had 324 000 and it mad heaps of difference and it wasnt bad only thing was the tensioner was rooted. also there is no adjustments on the chain. the tensioner keeps it tensioned.

lol nope, car and motor made of rubbish.. it doesn't deserve a timing chain. It can keep rattling around with the tensioner in the sump until it dies in spectacular fashion.
