I just removed the sump from a old 92 vp cop car.
and found the bigest peice of metal i have ever seen in a sump that was not a piston.
History of the motor
370 000 km lowish oil pressure and poor servicing in the past.
an occasional knock on startup but not all the time.
I'm thinking part of the oil pump.

Way to big to be a piston ring.
about 10mm x 5mm L shape cross section and around 1mm thick.
There are a couple notchs out of it and a couple holes drilled through it.
almost looks like some form of sleeve bearing :S or bearing caseing.
Whatever it is, it must be an optional extra, the motor runs without it :P
looks like it used to be a cam bearing
i'm with Dr bob on this one. looks like a bearing shell to me but the mains and big ends have split bearings and this one looks like a one piece job just like a cam bearing

whatever the **** it is i hope i dont find it in my engine anytime soon......my first thought was a bearing of some sort
mmm transplant time i think.
it really looks like a bearing shell of some kind, although if its sitting in the sump The motor must be pretty f**ked
how you could get a bearings casing off a bearing and not notice is beyond me, time to get the hoist out and throw in a second hand motor
selling victorian number plates MADVN6,
pm me if interested
Wouldnt the likely cause be that its done the bearing in the past and its been repaired since? Something of that size/weight would just sit pretty in the sump anywayz so i wouldnt be overly concerned. Unless of course it was my motor......![]()
Being one piece looks to me like it could only be a cam bearing as well
Your dignity...
