    Default Pacemaker?

hey everyone..ive got a '90 VN 3.8 & the only performance mod atm is a 2.5'' catback exhaust from redback, (theres heaps of visual things done) and im debating about wheather or not to get some pacemaker headders installed in it. Is it worth it on the v6? how much of a difference in the sound would there be?

    thanks

People have this misconception that extractors change the sound. They do to an extent, but it's very hard to tell. A V8 with tuned length extractors makes a noticeable difference, but on a V6 you would be hard pressed to tell the difference.

The advantage is in how it drives. Extractors will even out the torque and make the gear changes smoother. They will improve acceleration and also give you better highway economy.

You probably noticed that you lost a bit of bottom end after the exhaust was fitted, if you fitted it rather than buying the car with it already on there. Extractors will gain a bit back.

When i installed my Pacemaker extractors i couldnt notice much of a difference but it did change the note a fair bit, sounds more grunty and not so much of a constant groan, best thing to do is you already have the exhaust so pacemakers CAI, and tune. to start with.

All depends on how much you're going to be paying for the Pacies. On a V6, I tend to think there are MANY mods you can do, before Pacemakers become the best bang for your buck.

CAI is the best bang for your buck, so long as you can rig one up for less than $20

make a wire mesh & clean/replace your filters less... but that would disturb air flow & loose 6.5 kilowatts.

A chip off greenfoam is the best bang for your buck, pacemakers are noticeable mainly at higher speeds (80+) i found in the v6. did change the note but not a helluva lot.

Mesh, psh, waste of time and effort. You still have to clean the airbox in the end.

When I put header on my V6 It felt more lively right from take off (I suppose I did a full exhaust with the headers).

    Default Pacemaker PH-5029

I got my stock Auto V6 down from around 7.6 seconds 0-60 time to around 7.1 seconds with exhaust and T5 conversion. The exhaust mod included pacemaker PH-5029 headers and a redback 2.5" Catback. This was done not as an end in itself but more in preparation for the blower. The exhaust note did change considerably, but I think this had more to do with the catback system rather than the headers.

There was definitely a performance gain from the headers and the catback system and I feel it was fairly considerable.

I Have the same setup on my car now that what your are thinking of, redback 2.5" and pacemaker extractors, what i noticed was there's definatly a sound change, it sound a bit nicer and gruntier, and is louder particulary in 2nd gear its rather loud, doesnt idol alot louder depends how you drive it i suppose. Performance wise, it's an improvement for sure, perhaps not as much as you might hope, it seems to pull alot better especially at higher speed. And in first, if i go full throttle i struggle to get traction, and thats with 245, 19's. if you are to keep your car with the 6 id definatly get extractors at some stage

yea ive seen a few of the 6's with pacemakers and theres a notible difference in the sound they produce, but ive decided 2 just leave it and save for a VY, it will only take me a month or so because i started a while ago
    thanks 4 the answers every1
