Hey all,
Decided I should give the throttle body and intake a good clean today, as it hasn't been done for a while. Also thought that I would clean the IAC.
After following the How To guide posted on JC, I am having problems with the idle speed.
I took the car for a short drive, and two times it stalled at idle. The check engine light is staying on as well.
Does anyone know what it might be? I'm just about to check the ECU for error codes.
Any help much appreciated
Cheers,
Sam
I just checked the error codes and it came back with:
Code 33 - Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP) - Voltage Too High
What does this mean?
You might have pulled the vaccum line on the map sensor off?
did u clean the plunger in the throttle body, u have to take it out and clean the carbon off it,it only goes in one way by memory, that is your problem, the car runs fine with the air on but will stall when u turn it off
Greenfoam was spot on!
After I put the t/b back in with all the hoses connected, the one on the back fell off. The one leading to the MAP sensor. crazy how bad the car runs without the MAP sensor!
My idle seems a lot better now, even a tad too high! I might have to adjust the screw on the t/b.
I'm still noticing huge drops in fuel economy though. I've gone from getting 500kms out of a tank to 300 sometimes less. I can't put my finger on it. I checked the oxygen sensor and it seems ok. I don't have any fuel leaks, I just don't know why.....
Cheers,
Sam
Reset the idle first. It would have been compensating for the crap that was in the IAC. Reset the ECM then start the car and rev it to 2000rpm for 10 seconds. This will reset the idle.
Either remove the main engine fuse or disconnect the battery for 10 seconds.
Thanks for your help mate.
I did as you said, it seems to be idling a bit better now.
However, I have just noticed this high pitched noise from the engine bay.. On further inspection, it appears to be coming from the throttle body area. I thought it might be a loose hose, or vacuum leak, but it's not.
I can't find where it's coming from. Anyone know?
Cheers,
Sam
Maybe the vacuum line under the throttle body has a split in it.
Well, I have checked every vac line in the engine bay, not one is split.
I can't figure out whats making the high pitch noise. It definately coming from the throttle body area, and only started after I pulled it off to clean it.
It increases in frequency as the throttle is increased.
Any help, would be great
Cheers
Gasket is new, and yer all the bolts are tight. It's really annoying the hell out of me. And with not much time to take it to a mechanic, I want to sort it myself..
try spraying some CRC around the area, if the noise changes you may have a vacuum leak.this will give you a starting point
