    Default VP Modifications

    Hello,

    I own a 1993 VP Calais, 3.8L V6.

It has a 2.5" Cat Back exhaust, 700 Turbo Transmission, Stage 2 shift kit and Hurricane Extractors waiting to be bolted on. On the way is a polished cold air intake pip with a K&N air pod filter, aswell as chuckin' it on it's ass with some King Springs.

I'm 17 years old so the car is currently unregistered while I work on it.

Is there anything else I can replace to somewhat increase performance/response etc?

    Cheers,
    Chris

CAI intake of a vs sc commodore $50 from holden brand new is not a bad mod. Make sure you keep your old springs may need them when it goes for roady and inspection.

As for other upgrades i suggest replacing things like your leads, plugs, oil, filtersand all the basic things like that.
Then go on ebay look up user id nicefrog (greenfoam on the forums) and ask him to do a memcal tune for you tell him what mods you have done. Thatll be your best bang for your buck you'll ever spend

oversized tb arent that cheap unless you find a v8 one which is 5mm bigger compared to the v6 @ 60mm. Most 70mm ones are about $150-$250 and dont really do much. Your elbow is only about 65mm anyway so there's not much point going bigger than that. Greenfoam's chips are about $50 and would give you much better gains than buying a bigger TB.

Yep thatd be the one but some of what he says is not exactly the truth 23kw is not likely to happen form a chip it would be hard to prove that it will make those gains and hard to disprove aswell. TB is the right one though it will not match your manifold perfectly as he states as the elbow is not 70mm its only about 65mm. It is also exchange so you will have to send your old tb and chip in return.
If you want to spent that money and buy that go ahead. Me personally i'd spend 30minutes cleaning my own tb and smoothing out the lip and pay $50 to greenfoam and get a reliable chip from someone i know that tunes v6's properly. In the end you'd save $250 and receive the same gains and maybe some more.

Fair enough, what do you mean by smoothing out the lip?

I'll defiantly hit Greenfoam up once I've got all of my mods installed.

on the inside of your tb there's a lip pull your intake piuping off and have a look. If you smooth that out make sure it opens 100% and clean it up including the IAC valve it will flow enought air to suit almost any mods you'll do to the v6

Foamy does a great job mate. I actually did a test today in my vp v6, drove it with the stock chip, then quickly changed over to the foamy chip and reset the computer, took it for a drive and smiled like a fat kid that just found a cup cake

I got a Elbow and its 68mm, still 70mm T/B is pointless, just get a V8 1, VS S/C CAI from holden, ryco air filter lol and tune take the bell mouth out since its a VP.

Yeah, that's the right idea On a V6, pretty much all induction mods except a cold air intake, 100% throttle butterfly check, bellmouth and a clean air filter are pointless. Even the value of removing the bellmouth is debated (but hell, I removed mine anyway)

hahaha, if you can pick stuff up for the price you did, then supercharging is the way to go. The only issues are the legality of it (unless you live in QLD, I love mod plates!) but if you're as keen as stocky, you can just keep bolting/unbolting your supercharger as you drive back and forth between Knox TMU and VicRoads.

bahahaha you smartarse bastard ^_^ let's hope you don't run into him again with the supercharger

on the topic of this thread, I can't help but strongly recommend getting LSD and higher ratio diff gears 3.7s or 3.9s go off their tits in a V6.

thats not really that cheap man.

100 bucks for k&n at any shop repco, autobarn etc

and the cai is 50 bucks from holden.

so if you want to take the easy way. it will cost you about the same to get it from the shops

You can pick up K&N Filters with oiling kit for around $90 on eBay, or $60 without the oiling kit these days.

Bz Kneez, 3.9s is probably getting a little keen with a manual I have 3.7s sitting in the garage, and I suspect even they will be spastic with T5 ratios!
