    Angry steering column help!

    hey guys,
me and my mate tried taking my stock steering wheel off the other day, and it wouldnt go no where haha,
we tried one pulling on the steering wheel and the other hitting on the nut with a hammer,
and stupidly enough ive stuffed the thread on it so the bolt wont go back on ,
whats the easiest way to get the thing off?
and im pretty sure im going to need a whole new steering column casue i might have wrecked the inside bearing and ive wrecked the thread anyway ,
is it easy to put the steering column in by myself?
or just get someone that knows what there doing to do it for me?

thanks guys for all your help and hope you can help me with this,
    much appreciated!

I ended up half sliding the shaft out so when I tried to put the steering wheel back on the horn would not work? Had me puzzled for a few days. The wheel just would not come off. That was untill I used a plastic mallett, my knees under the wheel, left hand pulling back on the wheel and bashed the pooh out of it with the mallett.

If the bearing is stuffed it probably will be best to replace it while the colum is out of the car.

The centre shaft is a snug fit and can slide apart when trying to get the wheel off. It taps back into place easy as.

hi matey ive changed a few steering wheels my vk i undid the nut pulled on the steering wheel and the whole steering shaft came off so i had to replace the whole thing ops my vr i had more luck with i just undid the nut so it was at the top of the thread then pulled to the steering wheel while hitting the nut with a rubber mallet hard but not to hard. a tip for installing the new steering wheel fit it but dont push it all the way home dont put the nut on go for a drive (take it easy) so you can ajust the wheel so it is straight when it is push all the way home replace the nut too easy because ya dont want to take them off again if ya dont have too. trust me it is a bitch.
