    Default Getting a VN Calais

    Should have it next week.Its a V6 series 1.Now the owner has told me it has done a head gasket but im not sure.Now i havnt started it and for the price i really couldnt be bothered trying until i get it home.He has changed the radiator and fan set up but it was still getting hot so he cancelled the rego and got another car.Ive checked the oil and its fine(not burnt or milky)Its missing the overflow bottle cap and the bottle is covered in old rusty water.Im thinking he has just had a dodgy cap and it was causing it to get hot.I know that starting it will show me more but im interested in what you guys think the prob might be.

    hard to say without knowing how it runs mate, just because its getting hot doesnt mean its a head gasket, its highly unlikely it is that, it could be a blocked thermostat, perhaps a seized water pump. is it leaking coolant?

    Dont know if its leaking,will need to see how it runs.From what i have seen so far i dont think its a head gasket.

    If it has rusty water in it the thermostat may be stuck

    ya may be very luckey just flush the coolent out new radiator cap and away ya go can only hope thats the case

    buy it if it turns out to be a lemon, sell all the calais options..

    you will get your money back easy

    Oh im buying it,its nice and straight but faded,its on LPG and even though its not lowered it has Kmac adjustable strut tops.RHF window goes up but not down so he has disconnected it and the wiper switch is held together with tape.Im going to give it to my uncle to drive if i can fix the water problem,just get it RW and regoed and pass it on.

    Payed for it today and will get it towed to a friends shop so they can look at it(dont have time)Seems he drove it for a couple of days without the cap on the overflow bottle.

    it should not rally matter if the cap was not on the overflow bottle because its not a preasurised cap. If he drove it without a radiator cap, thats bad.

    Im sure the series one is pressurised.

    Well got it,and what a heap of crap it is.Noisy as hell form the balancer.idles Ok so thats good but would hardly move once in gear.No fliud in the pwr steer,dash doesnt work,one window works.Fix or sell?Will have to wait and see.Does have new axhaust and cat,Kmac strut towers,tint.
