    Default CAI Installation

    Hello,

    I purchased a Holden CAI plus a K&N Filter, although I believe I'm missing a part.

    Original Air Filter:

    CAI + K&N Filter Setup:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but obviously there is a part that sits on top of the Filter, and connects into my intake pipe?

Does anyone know the name of this part?

    Cheers,
    Chris

ok you had a pod ilter not the standard air box.
The air box is a 2 piece thing and one part bolts down and the filter sits inside then the top goes on and te pipe connects to it.
so you need the complete airbox and flexible joint to use the cai.
You also need to flatten the ends of the cai to about the bolt holes so it fits under your bonnet. A old iron can flatten this.

Yep thats all that is in the vs s/c v6 kit. the original airbox can be bought from the wreckers cheap as chips, then buy a high flow panel filter.

He's got the filter:P all he needs is a airbox lid and the small section of rubber hose and a couple of clamps

should fit, i was a derp and bought a VS SS CAI, not the VS supercharged, my snorkel still fit and still joins to the box. i think it's only the vn group a (and maybe hsv) airboxes that are different.

Alright, also, there is a hole at the bottom of the air box, I read on another thread this was used to put in another pipe which goes to the bottom of the car?

    Here's a picture:

    What's the deal with that?

    Cheers

basically you've got most of the setup you'll need, you just need the box top and the pipe-joiner.
originally the cars came with a box bottom like what you've got in that pic^^ but a smaller opening, because the snorkel wasn't stock. some folks widen the hole and put the snorkel in it (it sucks air from over the radiator)

as well/instead of this snorkel, some people run a pipe out the hole down to the bumper, but i think people have had worries with getting water sucked up too.

there's also folks who do the standard snorkel, but bore a hole in the bottom of the box and also in the metal of the guard under where it sits and pipe through there, don't do this tho, as it's defectable.

    I see.

For the part that sits in the middle and sucks the air, do I need to drill holls into the radiator fan to screw it in?

from memory the holes i drilled were into this thin bit of plastic that sits over the radiator, just make sure you don't drill into the radiator itself, or badness will happen.

a dual exhaust is more than a catback. You havent told us any of your gtech run results, im sure youve used it. Tell us how accurate they are so i dont need to provide a slip, doesnt matter anyway cant compare a car that has 1086000 on the clock to a regular vn v8.

Car has duel zorst from stock, and I had the catback(s) done. No, I havnt taken the GTS out for a test on my new Gtech so therei s no results for you to bag out. P.S. Its only 186,000kms...lucky mines worth more then a regular Vn V8 then.

s if you bought a gtech that costs a few hundred, you get it, then dont use it even once. i find that pretty hard to believe. were supposed to be mates, just leave it at pods arent as bad as your making out.

Ive also had a pod on a v8, the difference between the stock box/filter versus a standalone k&n pod is enough to make you want to keep it. I got more of a push form the pod than what i did with a hsv tune.

Let's not turn this thread into a 'my car is better than your car' drama-fest.

You both have nice cars and all that matters is what you think of your car.
