hi i have a vq 5lt brought it cheap, when i got it the batt was stuffed (sitting flat to long i think) so i jump started it and was of. since then i have replaced the batt with the one out of my 06 lancer and it works sometimes. when i go to start the car it will sometimes turn over if it doesnt start up early than it just makes a single click sound. then i have to jump start it and once i get enough current through the cables it fires up.
any help would be good note.... it no longer turns over even eith a jumpstart it just makes a loud single click sound
thanx
Try the basic things first: replace plugs, leads, dizzy cap / rotor button and your ignition module. If that doesn't work, try a brand new battery.
Could be a number of things really.
tried vt v6 batt same result plugs leads dizzy caop and ingnition module are all reated to car running not it turning over
but thanx
Being a V8 it may require more battery power than what the batt out of your lancer puts out,
starter motor it sounds like to me, if it is just one click, happened to a mate the other day and was doing the same thing.
maybe just give the starter motor a good hit with a spanner or something and try start car again

a v6 battery works in a v8 fine in the vn series. Like kniever said, soloniod perhaps....
Maybe a voltage regulator on the alternaotr, or even a poor earth.
Sounds like the starter motor solenoid....
ive checked the batt and they are only 450cca and 480cca are these to small
thanx
450cca will turn a 5 litre over no problems at all.
it may be the power cable connected to the starter motor. It probably has high resistance....might need to replace it.
My car audio:
CD tuner: Alpine CDA-9884E with Ipod interface
Front speakers: Alpine Type R SPR-17S 6.5 component speakers, powered by a avant-garde 23dxi 2 channel amplifier - 2x51 watt RMS
Rear speakers: pioneer coaxials connected to tuner
Subwoofer: Alpine Type R SWR-1222D 12" 2 ohm dual voice coil 500 watts RMS powered by a response precision 2x150 watts RMS 2 channel amp bridged to 500 watts RMS @ 4 ohms
I would be pulling the starter and cleaning up the contacts on the solenoid (or just flip them over). Sounds like they have too much corrorion buildup on them and not letting the full current through! You will have to take the solenoid off the starter to do it as they are inside.
As a test to check the lead to your starter (as mentioned) put one end of a good set of jumper leads onto the starter end of the lead that is attached to the starter and the other end to your battery positive terminal, if it fires straight up you have a dodgy lead and need to replace it, try that first. Also put the other jumper lead onto a good contact on your engine and the other end onto the negative of your battery, this just ensures a good earth!
Hope this helps................Pete!![]()
yes as allready said check leads to starter AND any earth leads that may be fitted to start or even engine to body earth leads.
another one to try is to short from the big power cable to the smaller terminal to see if it starts. If it starts fine like that then it is a wiring problem in your harness like a dirty switch fuse.
Is the starter covered in oil? Oil can fill the starter up and stop it working.
try puttin a screwdriver across the power to teh trigger on the starter otherwise, sound like an engine earth point
