    Default Central Locking/Power Windows

    Hi,

Can someone possible supply me with some links of How-To's or fault threads of Central Locking/Power Windows?

I'm aware of the search function! I've used it, Google'd it, I cannot find anything.

Any assistance is appreciated of course.

    Chris

    Well, the usual Holden faults.

The whole LH side of the Power Windows do not work, I'm thinking it may be the switch, although my RH side is a bit dodgy also and would like to know how to fix them (I believe I read something about cleaning them.)

The rear door Central Locking is random, some times they work, some times they don't, some times one works etc.

    Thanks, Chris

While it could be something else, that describes exactly what happens when the wire to the central locking breaks between the door and the car body. The wire stays inside the insulation and the ends make intermittent contact.

The fix requires another harness - used is cheap but may have the same problem, new may be expensive, if available - or cutting out and replacing a section of the suspect wires long enough for each newly joined end to sit inside the door and body. Just cutting and rejoining won't work because the wire will be shorter nor will the joint be able to flex with the door closing/opening.

If its an intermittent problem with the window chances are its not the switches. My money is on the Power Window Control module which is located next to the steering column on the left behind the plastic panel. They solder joints expand and contract with heat so after a while the windows will only sometimes work. I had the same problem with my car and after new switches, new wiring, I just got the stupid little black box for $10 from the wreckers hooked it up and it worked like a charm. As for the central locking I have the same problem too I believe its the solenoids in the actual locking mechanism working only randomly how to fix that though I have no idea.

I'm not getting any power to switch for the LH side, at night when the car is on the lights are not coming up.

Could this be the switch or as you say, the Power Window Control module?

Ill jump in as im having similar issues. Rear LH side central locking button will only go up and down manually, and all electric windows except for the rear LH side work.

And does anyone know where theres a guide to removing the front drivers and passengers windows?

Could be the wiring loom connecting them all up but thats doubtful unless some moisture has somehow gotten in. I would change the Power window control module first as that is the cheapest possible way to get it all working again. If its the switches you may be in serious trouble as unless you find the switches at a pick a part type wreckers cheaply other wreckers will make you pay through the nose for them. For my VP the lowest price I got on a reco'd switch was $88 and no one wanted to sell me they just ripped out a car. And rare spares wanted such a astronomically large amount of money it was just scary.
