Can someone link me, or write up a quick step by step on replacing coil pack for a VP 5L?
5ltr uses a single coil, its on the firewall from memory, unbolt it, disconnect the coil plug and the wires on it, hook new one up the same way.
cheers, appreciated.. will give it a shot, got the part today.. will see how we go!!
you cant just unbolt it, you need to remove the engine covers, move the hoses that run along the firewall out of the way, disconnect the dissy cap, then move it out of the way, you can then have enough access to change the ***coil over.

i don't think I need to change the dissy cap!? im only replacing coil pack mate....
go have a look and youll see what i mean
If its in the same spot as a VT V8 then you dont have to remove the rocker cover.
ummm, you dont have to but theres pretty much no room to play with so getting it out of there is a good idea. I dont know how skinny your arms are but there is no chance in hell i can even touch the coil without removing it.
Its a tight sqeeze put it that way.
I meant the engine covers not rocker cover, just allows more room to work with
Trent its right at the rear of the inlet manifold on the left side. They are a bit of a prick to get to, just remove the l/h engine cover (injection, not rocker) to make it a bit easier to get to. It's just held on by a single 13mm bolt....
Are you sure it's the coil Trent??
no wonder you guys got confused, i meant to say coil instead of dissy as marked above.
Should be a ten minute job, TrentRemove the passenger side fuel rail cover, then get up on your knees on the inlet manifold. This is made much more comfortable if you fold up a towel to put under your knees. I can stay up there for up to an hour at a time with a towel under my knees
Very comfortable. You're a small bloke, you'll manage. Then to the right of the distributor, you'll see the coil. It's a silver cylinder, about the size of a small can of V. It helps to mark up the passenger side spark leads with numbers, unplug them, and pull them back so you can hang them off to the driver's side of the distributor. That gets those out the way.
Then see if you can pull the heater hoses back a bit, and lift up the fuel hose. From there, there should be:
1x wire on a blade connector, which you can slide off
1x wire on a round terminal head, bolted on with a small nut
1x spark lead which you can unplug
1x 13mm bolt which you can undo with a spanner
and then the coil should come out freely
As long as you get your whole body up there so you can see it clearly, it's really easy![]()
