Hello,
The aerial on the original power antenna (or at least I think it's original) on my VP Calais was broken, so I purchased a second hand power antenna that was taken out of a VP Calais.
Mine is a 93' and by looking at the S/H one the car it was taken out of was either a 91/92' or another make of antenna.
Original Antenna:
Second Hand Antenna:
Are they the same? Is one motorized and the other electrical? (I'm not sure of the difference)
The cable colours are different. Also, I cannot disconnect the black cable on the original antenna, if anyone knows how this is done please feel free to let me know.
Thank you for reading,
Chris
the s/h one looks non original to me... it has a relay which is designed to take the "constant on" from the radio, and power the motor for a set time (long enough to raise the antenna completely) and then when it loses the "on" from the radio, long enough reverse the motor, again for a set time, to lower the antenna completely.
stupid q, and maybe you have already been down this track, but whats wrong with the original? it may be repairable and you wont have to play around with the wiring. cheers pete.
same the new on is a after market job.
The metal strip o the bottom is a dead giveaway.
The original ones fillup with water and screwup over time.
If the motor and contacts were in good nick then the stalk is replaceable.
My 92 vp has the same aerial as your did.
This is for a VR but should be the same. Hope this helps...
Look like you have some options:
1) Stay standard: buy a new Holden antenna (maybe big $$$, dunno) or
2) Buy a second hand Holden one (that may be almost as stuffed as your oldy) OR
3) Rewire everything to suit the new aftermarket antenna.
Me? i would pull the old one to bits, get the motor going and put new set of rods in it (which apparently you can get from Holden, probably fairly cheaply). The advantage of this way is that everything stays original, which (in my view) is worth it.
If you try to get the aftermarket one going you are going to be running wires, installing switches and - possibly - going crazy.
Over to you. cheers pete.
