Hi there i have been thinking of getting a whole new exhaust system for my 1991 VN Commy, when recently a crack has formed at the back muffler joint. I went to my local AAA exhaust shop told them what i want and they suggested
-Pacemaker Headers
-Hi Flow Cat
-2.5" Single Mandrel Bent Stainless Steel System
for $1700 (inc fitting)
Now i dont want the noise to be to loud that it draws attention to the police. Is there something better or would this be ok, money is no option.
cheers
high flow cat is not nessesary. the stock v6-v8 cats are more than enough for a v6.
Go with it, but stainless is a bit of a waste if its not a show car, just get it done in steel.
Also, make sure you get a resonator put on otherwise it WILL sound like poo. take the muffler out and put just the resi on the rear.
cheers for that Vnv8driver that puts my mind to rest now
if you only want the stainless for the sound, make sure you get a thick pipe for the catback. It reduces the tinnyness in the note a bit more along with the resonator.
I had this setup on my vp, and previoulsy had genies with a 2.5 catback with theusual no resi and a muffle. the vp was quieter (but not quiet) and sounded alot better.
Forget the hi flow cat on an N/A V6. Extractors and a decent system is all you need. Depending on whether it is a manual or auto will determine the configuration. Auto, go no front muffler with the rear resonator, manual, keep the front and ditch the rear.
hmmmm from what i saw in the catalog at the shop...cant really remember, it showed the system from the headers through the cat and at the end with a hotdog
I wouldn't pay that much on a stock N/A motors exhaust, i have Pacemakers, standard cat, 2.5 mandrel bent exhaust single muffler no resi sounds pretty good, its auto but i am converting it to manual soon so yeah wonder how much the sound will change :P The price was around 3-400, extractors are near new but secondhand and exhaust was brand new.
