HI, i'm thinking of using a commodere diff in my project (A MGB With SR20DET) and just wondering what the approximate weight of the borgwarner 78 diff. Thanks
Andy
ok i rekon it was heavier then my old tv which weighed in at 65kg.
so 70 -80kg about.
I'm a big boy and it was just a little to heavy for me to lift and carry.
It's a 2 man lift job.
in regards to putting it into the MGB, remember to upgrade the leaf springs to handle the weight
yeah i was thinking about the springs as well the std MGB diff weighs 56kg and i would be shorting the Commodore diff a fair bit.
if you just sortened it without removing to much else the weight reduction would be very small a few cm's of tube and shaft weigh very little.
have you thought about using a diff from a lighter car with enough strength, jap stuff?
not to sure but wouldn't all the jap stuff strong enough for my engine be for IRS all the ealry jap stuff was pretty gutless i thought, and they switch to IRS ages ago.
i would be able to cut all the standard brackets off and just weld to leaf spring saddles on to it.
As i posted in your double thread on this subject.
A VN-VP etc live axle Diff complete, gears, axles etc, with the rear half section of the tailshaft, weighed exactly 101kgs.
