Hey guys,
I did a search couldnt find stuff all on it,(i might be blind) But i am pulling my motor out and replaceing all the seals and gaskets with a VRS Gasket kit, i'm just wondering if the valve stem seals are hard to replace and is there any special tool that you need to do it with, i've never replaced any before
any info and tips are great.
~ VN POWER ~ Click the scales
No theyre not hard to replace. Waaay easier with heads off the motor but if your doing them on the motor your going to need to stop the valve from falling down as your going to have to push the new ones over the top of them. There are special tools to pull them off but you can use a flathead screwdriver to lever them off. There's also a tool to push them on but i can do easy with my hands though it may be harder with the valve in..
Basically remove the springs collets and retainer and lever the old one off. Push the new one over the valve (use a touch of oil to lubricate) and all the way down onto the stem they sort of click into place as the little wire coil catches on the stem check that theyre square and then reassemble.
With the heads off strip heads and put the seal on first lubricate the valve stem put valves in and then reassemble.
NOTE TO people reading this this is only for V6's. V8 ARE DIFFERENT they have a rubber o ring that sits just below the collets. To replace them compress spring remove and replace seal then reassemble. If Your building V8 heads dont put the seal on first.
