    Default Problem with fuel gauge

Ive had this since i bought it and i think its about time to fix it!

Basically my fuel gauge only shows half of the fuel i actually have because if i fill from empty ( according to the gauge ) it will take no more than 33 litres to fill it.

So what could be causing this?? I know its not a problem with the cluster because ive already changed that ( lv1 to lv2 ).

    any help would be good.
    We got rep back, yaaay!

floater could be getting stuck, or you might have the worlds most dented fuel tank

You can calibrate the guage by removing it from the cluster and with a small flat blade screw driver move the adjuster over a smidge. Put it back together and test. repeat if you went the wrong way.

Your sender unit is probably the bit thats wonky - but as I said above you can calibrate the gauge some what to make up for it. Takes about 1/2 an hour to do.

I had exactly the same problem. I tried the usual check of the Voltage regulator etc. The problem was the connection from the sender unit in the tank to the wiring connector that goes to the fuel gauge had corroded. I cut off the connector from the wiring loom, took it apart and throoughly cleaned it and the filed the connectors from the sender unit in the tank. Soldered the wires from the plug back to the wiring loom and instantly gained another 1/2 a tank. It now reads full when it is full and half full when half full

I have the same problem, but my fuel gauge is stuck on full or just under full.
It was normal for a while but then was empty when it showed 1/4 tank.

It did this just after I changed the fuel pump.

    Any ideas.

    Cheers

Fixed mine, the lever was catching on the fuel pump rails, so I bent it outwards a bit so it would have enough clearance to swing freely.

    Cheers

Oh - it was the fuel sender unit - not the gauge?

yes the float arm was bent and catchning on the fuel pump pipes (not clearing them) causing it to be stuck in the same position, full.

It was a case of "I touched it, I stuffed it", I must have bent it when I put the new fuel pump in.

But if you still have the pic of the gauge it would be interesting.

    Cheers

    Hey guys,
I filled up on Saturday night (First time filling to the brim kinda thing) and drove from newcastle to byron bay and the gauge was still on full =s, Went to a servo and put fuel in, and it took $73.

Did I maybe fill it so much that it got stuck on something?
My 'distance till empty' thingo was telling me it had 1018km, but now after i re filled up its saying something like 710 or something like that...?

Sounds like the sender may have been stuck. You could give the tank a gentle thump.

Thanks Greenvn, I'll give that ago when I'm back near the car.
Cause just while I'm on holidays I would much rather it to be working so hopefully it might drop or something.

    Cheers hey!

I filled my 1992 VP vac full (first time in years) and now the ****ing gauge is stuck on top.

When you turn ignition it off it will go down, but as soon as it's started it just goes straight back up to the full.

Please some help! or ethann did you manage to fix your?

Sounds like the float is stuck at the top - maybe give the tank a bump....
