I'm looking into the best option for me in terms of buying a VP Calais for an LS1 conversion. Is it worth finding one with ABS, will I be able to retain this with the new motor and significantly upgraded brakes? Also can anyone think of a good reason why a V8 Calais would be any better place to start than a V6 one? Series 1 or 2?
IRS is a must for me, conveniently all VP Calais had this already.
Looking at an LS1 with T56
Any ideas welcome

V8 Calais would be beneficial for radiator, K frame ad probably diff as most are going to be LSD.
Also, sell the 5L and box and you'll get half decent money. Sell the V6 and box and get stuff all. So the extra for the V8 is probably worth it.
If you're buying a new car mate, i'd just buy a VX Calais LS1 or something. It costs alot, so if you're not attached to the car and havent sunk alot of cash into it already just buy an LS1 powered car.
All VP Calais' have ABS aswell
The only model that is half and half is VP SS.

All VP Calais had LSDs.
I was mislead by this page... Holden VP Commodore / Calais
Cheers, that's the plan
haha oh no, maybe that page wasn't misleading me... I think it was standard on series 2 and an option on series 1..

They all had them, maybe a previous owner blew the diff and was too cheap to replace it with a proper one

dont waste ya money man seriously buy the future wife, and have sum babies
Yep sorry guys no longer going ahead for now, even doing it myself would cost more than I'm willing to spend on a car at the moment. I can't justify it financially. IF a motor and 6spd came up at a very very good price I might consider it, but for now it's a no go.
What a let down
And yes a VP conversion and a VX conversion are very different ball games!!
It does, however, look like I'll have a VP Calais shortly, so who knows what the future may hold

WOW old thread
Well, here's an update anyway:
Plans changed in the mean time and I decided to sell my car and buy a VS Clubsport.
Then I couldn't do that because I was too attached to my car (my dad's car, my first car, watch 'Love The Beast' and you'll understand) so I decided to keep it and just drive it around forever.
A mate and I rebuilt a VR V6 for it, the plan was to drive it around like that until it died, then build another one.
HANG ON A SECOND
If I'm to keep this car for 40 years (assuming I don't crash it), it has to make me smile. EEVERY time I drive it.
I looked into turbocharging the V6 as a nice cheap power option.
Decided I wouldn't be happy unless I had a V8 again
Looked into a stroker build (backyard spec 355/383), decided the L98 is a waaay better option
Found out the L98 is still way too expensive for me, at the same time as I found a good cheap LS1.
See here for future updates(boring for now but it'll get going in the next couple of months)

Wow I rambled
