    Exclamation help!!! ecu problems

started the car this arvo and the engine light was on and car is sitting at about 1250-1300rpm in nuetral.

now i ran the diagnostics and nothing is happening, the light just stays solid.
just to confirm it is the black and the white connectors i have to join.

i dont know what is happening but my guess is i have to get a new ecu? is that correct?

    any help appreciated.

*edit* just realised i hit 600 posts whoohoo

black and white wires, one on top of the other, on the right side of the connector from memory (or left, whichever way you look at it).

does the thermo fan come on when turning on the ignition while the pins are bridged?

are you bridging them when the ignition is off?

ok just another update, i went out b4 to start the car and it took about 5 starts b4 it started cos it just kept stalling and when it did finally start the revs just kept bouncing from 500-1000rpm for about 5 mins then when that settled the revs just kept slowly rising until i turned the car when it went over 1000rpm.

i thought it might be something to do with the tb but went over that and it was fine and the only other thing i could find was where the fuel line connects to the rail it was leaking a bit which explains the increase in fuel usage lately lol.

im really guessing i will need a new ecu as it just will not show me any codes at all, just stays a solid light.
any sugestions anyone b4 i go replacing the ecu? and would a v6 ecu be alright for a v8?

Hi, You will need a V8 Ecm as the 8 has different sensors than the 6. (hall effect etc) I would check over all your sensors before spending all that money on a computer that you might not need. I had a similar problem and i replaced my TPS, IAC, Fuel filter, Fuel pressure Reguator & O2 sensor all at once and that fixed it! (Dont ask which one it was as i changed them all at the same time) Got everything from the wreckers for $50 except for Oxygen sensor and filter which were $80 Brand new. Good luck

I presume we are talking about the vn v8 .its a white plug hanging by ecu like the picture above put a paperclip between A and B on that picture above
v6 and v8 exactly the same ecu either will fit just need to swap memcals over.ide say youve gone into limp home mode for some reason the memcal might have come out of its plug even .if you get no codes and the light stays solid either memcal not connected or ecu toast.or you arnt bridgeing the right pins

went over the ecu and disconnected the plugs and put them back in, took out memcal and put it back in and started the car, car ran perfect then i turned it off to run diagnostics test only managed to get one 12 come up then the light stayed solid again.

couldnt even get the three 12's to come up b4 it **** itself again and now the car just wont start at all

What ever was on the way out has probably died good n proper now.

The ECU is the same for the 6 and 8 as stated ^^^ above. Just swap the memcal over
You can try a different ECU and see what happens.
