My Alternator packed it in last night, bat light started comeing on around 5g, then worked it's way down to 4 then 3 then was continuously on.
I persuaded it to work again with the back of an axe
I was wondering how much a reco would cost, or how much to get mine reco'd, or what a better option for the stock one would be.
Or go for a lucky dip and pull one from the wreckers.
if you are careful you could try replacing the brushes.
When you pull it apart they will me the black charcoal looking thing and take them out and take to a auto elecy to get a matching set then reassemble.
This will only work if it is only the bushes that are stuffed.
The voltage regulator could be the problem as well.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
easiest thing to do, would be gettin one from the wreckers bro..$50 max...
its around $150-200 for a reco higher voltage alternator...
get a new reg n see how u go.
cool thanks. Will give it a shot.
Replaced the bushes for a total cost of $4 solder them in your self job. But while i had it apart i noticed a slight bearing noise, only very slight and the coper slip rings that the bushes run on have a 1m deep groove in them where the bushes sit.............
Is it time for a reco ? or a new one, i just dont want to go new because it will set me back 300ish![]()
$300 new from repco. if u want to take the lasy way out.
I have a feeling the new one would outlive the car lol.......... Ive had bad experience with new parts on old cars, the ones i take the cheap way out on live on, the one's a i throw a new bit on die soon after lol.
1mm should be fine, a commy is usually a few mm thick. Once the brushes bed in (1 drive), it will be fine. I wouldnt worry about it.
Thanks, I loaded the alternator up, all lights accesory's stereo and gave it a squirt to 5k there wasnt any dimming or alt light, So good so far.
Im pretty pleased for a $4 fix and a bit of soldering.
