    Default VP Dash Cluster

    Hello again,

I took my VP Calais for a drive and noticed only half of the cluster lights up with the headlights on, so I can't see the speedo/petrol meter. :S

I removed it and found that some of the green part on the back had been melted, is this an issue? Or have the globes that light up that side of the cluster simply blown? If so, how do I get to the globes?

Any help and/or suggestions are appreciated.

    Cheers mates!

    Chris

Easy as whth the cluster out - you have 3 large globes. one on the fuel gauge side. If the PCB (green backing) has melted you may have other problems too.

How do I get to the globes and where exactly are they located? I pulled it apart last time but was not sure what I could and could not remove, didn't want to take the risk.

Also, my speedo sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, could this possibly be because of the green backing being melted a bit, or is this a common thing?

The globes are in the back of the cluster.

A black retangle thing that just twists out.

If it is the full calais job with trip computer then you are screwed.
you will need to trace the burnt wires and stick some wire over them to get everything working again. You may get lucky and be able to cut some of what you need out of a standard dash, but not likely.
Also from the old dash you just scrounged up, replace the voltage rugulator.
Its the small circuit board inside the dash clusster, once you take the gauges out it will be stuck in the back.
You will break the mount clips wqhen you take it out, don'y worry just use a hot melt glue gun, i did.
the bulbs may be fine but just check them anyway.

Great, I'm thinkin' that's the best way to go at the moment, I don't think it's worth it to 'fix' my current one. (If there is anything wrong with it...)

    Thanks for the responses.

Is it only the dash backing lights that are knackered. Do the digital sections down the bottom still work? (That's all the trip computer stuff). I would be interested in your old dash if that part works as mine doesn't work in my VQ statesman.

    Cheers.................Pete!

Yes, the digital sections at the bottom still work.

How would you take that out and put it into your cluster though?
