Done a light search.
Just finished having a bit of a laugh at some of the trade me sellers over in New Zealand with regards to memcals.
I have a question. There aren't different tunes for local and export cars are there? I.e australia and the land of shabangabang. Seems very odd to claim such a thing. Can someone clear this up so I can start asking them questions to justify why I should buy one of theirs. No that I ever would, just hate seeing peps getting ripped off by A holes, like about $120 last time I looked. Stick it to the man.
Cheers all
Hi mate, the NZ tunes are different on the early cars as they have no 02 sensor. I don't THINK there is a specific NZ V8 tune, I used to think there was but now I think it's just a V6 thing, the V6 VN/P tunes are definatly NZ specific as they have no O2 sensor.
Either way I made all those tunes and let a guy sell them since I don't have an interest in selling stuff in NZ and he's a nice chap and that gives him something to do. The O2 error codes are disabled and the fuel map is leaned out to run it in open lean. Like the fuel economy tune I made for the V6's. Which is currently for sale on ebay (but not by me) grr. That's about it. NZ tunes are different = yes
YES, NZ tunes are different. the best option is to upgrade the early cars with a O2 sensor (wiring loom is there, just gota fit the sensor) and then get a tune to suit.

yeah I allways add the o2 sensor and swap to the aussie tunes when I change peoples memcals over.the ve's allways a bit off when you run an aussie tune in the nz cars though must be the lack of catalytic converters
yea I got a V8 tune off trademe (foamy one) its mint, But maybe need another soon for cam change?
Yeah to make it right you will, I don't mind sending one over the sea if you don't find one from NZ, spanners might know about 5 litres and cams these days
That is the guy I gave all the tunes to. I figured he needed a bit of help in life and that he would sell them for 20 bucks a pop or so. Well good luck to him, those are all my tunes, if he can sell them for 250 thats a good salesman I guess. If the New Zealand people are silly enough to pay...... But I have trouble with my mental conscience selling them for 45 even tho I've wanted to up the price a bit for a few months I haven't been able to get my head around it..
I really don't sell many bolt on tunes anymore which is a pity since that's easy work. But most of them now are fairly technical custom jobs for strokers and cammed 304s etc that no one else will/can do really without seeing the car, that's why I allways get to do them.
I have had phone calls from guys that have told me they really didn't want one from me untill they looked at my feedback because they were too cheap and they thought they must be ****. I still get scammed fairly often, last week an engine builder called me up and asked to do an emergency tune for his car, I stayed up all night doing it posted it red eyed in the morning, then went to sleep and never ended up getting payed or memcals in return (which was the deal) so I lost a memcal and a night for nothing. Things like that happen once in a while but I still have faith in people because 95% of them are good honest people.
It's really interesting for me to see how peoples minds work with this kind of thing. But I don't care, realisticly I have no prospect of ever having a normal full time job for the rest of my life, where I live and my general views on life don't mesh well with the corperate types :P. So if I can do a good deal for someone and survive all at the same time I'll go to my grave with a clean conscience (:. I get heaps of good soul feeding food, like letters and emails thanking me for getting cars running that haven't been out of shed for ages and things like that, so I'm quite happy
that seems to be the going rate on trade me at the mo. i'd do it for considerably less but i'm currently awaiting a UV eraser so that i don't need to perform heart surgery on the memcals. he did a cheap one not long ago but it was for a V6. i posted a question but he realised it was meand i don't sell on trade me, the tax man will come and visit me again

haha you and me both immortality thats why i dont sell on trademe bloody tax man.I normally sell them for 50 bucks swappa-cal for a pretty standard 02 sensor upgrade tune or give them away to some people aye immortality.I tend to trade stuff tune for a few memcals or the odd ecu and other parts.max ide ever charge would be 100 bucks.want a full logged VE correction and wideband tuned WOT $300-$400 would be fair.
I got my group A trumpets in exchange for 3 tunes, deal of the century![]()
oh wow, that really is the deal of the century... Sorry I never got back to you about that TBS memcal btw

So greeny you bust the hard yards on the tunes, do all the tough work on building your reputation, then pawn them off to a rip off kiwi, who sits back and counts the dollars. Obviously i'm not privey to any arrangment you guys have but god damn mate. And if he's a good bloke then good on him. I would never buy one from him purely because of the mark up. As a SPL and ladder programmer for industrial machinery I know how long it takes to burn some code. Make a few tweaks here and there to suit different applications, save them into grouped files and off ya go. Tell you what, you give me your tunes, i'll sell them in New Zealand for $125 and i'll go ya halves in the profits...
OK just had another look and i is the same guy, sh*t I only got mine lik 6 months ago and he was doing them for $45 remember foam?
hes got a website too holdentuning dot co dot nz its johnnythaboy off here.
hjtrbo, hartsc. I have no agreement with him, I don't get anything. He just seemed like he was doing it tough and that was a good way for him to survive. He's pretty clued up tho in a couple years he will be a good tuner in his own right I reckon. Probably buy a dyno while I'm still struggling along at 40 bucks a tune (remember I include soldering a 512k eprom in and V8 conversion if it's a VN V6 memcal into a VR/S in that price and or blanking and burning the memcal in the price, not just sending a eprom). For many cars it's a 10 bucks a hour job best case. But this is how the world works and that why I'm not a sucess (money wise) but successfull with people.
The thing is, alot of people in the world rate themselves on what they spend on things.
If they buy a VE then think they are better than someone with a VN, if they buy a tune for 250 bucks they will believe it's better than one for 10 bucks. That's how alot of people are and alot of people are quite prepared to exploit them for the way they think. That's how Ford, Holden, Coke, Pepsi and most other big companies in the world make buisness.
I would much prefer to be like athenewins on youtubepity I'm not famous like him. But I've never seen someone with such a genius plan in all my life
all in all I paid $45 and its the best damn tune i've had, most power out of my car, just keen to put on the dyno and see the results
Yep that's the most important thing, you got a good tune and in your case you didn't pay really too much![]()
Well, it seems im famous
Even if some people do say im a rip off, lol. just having people talk about me on an international forum site is awesome. People like Bjork punch the odd reporter for free publicity, And i didnt even need to punch anyone LoL.
Greenfoam is too nice when it comes to charging people money. Plain and simple. We discussed his prices a while ago and i said a price i thought he should go up to, but even that was'nt enough compared to what people want to pay!
I let the market determine the price through $1 reserve auctions, so why cant i put up a price that people are willing to pay? As previuosly mentioned, the tax man and everyone else wants thier cut too.
I have invested alot of time and THOUSANDS of dollars into this now, (and i still cant afford to eat properly, investing in my future is more important to me at the mo), which i sold all my firewood cutting equipment to buy as i was in that line of work. But after getting injured a couple of times which meant i had to have time off and some other hassles, i decided this is a much better line of work. I think most people would rather play with V8's than have the hassles of running a firewood business, thats a no-brainer.
Im not sure why people want to ask me questions on trademe that they know the answers to already, maybe they could explain thier plan?
I have finally found a job i enjoy doing, something that puts smiles on alot of other peoples faces, but this is the real world, and in the real world you will never, ever, please eveybody. As is obviously the case here.
Greenfoam is an awesome dude who i hope to be able to help one day. I only hope one day, i am in a position to.
a mate was surfing trademe and pointed me to your auction. seing as i know a little i was just trying to figure out if you knew anything or were just someone who copies and sells someone elses work. nothing sinister but there are a few on trademe who will rip off someone elses work for some easy $$$'s there are some sellers that i'm sure are just floggin of standard HSV tunes for big $$$
seeing as greenfoam is happy for you to use his stuff then thats not a problem. good to see your trying to do something with yourself after your injury![]()
