    Default VN-VP whine

G'day guys new to the forum, i dont own a Holden so i really wont use this website much (sorry to be blunt about it lol) but my question is for a friend in need

    he owns a VN-VP 1991 3.8litre

anyway today he took it for a spin and it started to make a whine noise (which according to him wasnt there before) when he gave it a little bit of acceleration also he mentioned the car had a abnormal shake he is a little bit worried as he drives to canberra regulary (3 hour drive from our home town) and doesnt want his car breaking down on him half way there any infomation on this would help him heaps and ease his mind!! please reply and i will pass the info onto him asap

as for me i think ill just stick to the big blue oval

    Cheers

you can get some funny noises from a ****ty idler pulley, or maybe just get a block of soap and rub it (carefully obviously) on the belt and the pulleys...

power steering is likely, so is a busted idler bearing as has already been said. Not usually anything else.. water pumps tend to grate more than whine

grab the biggest screwdriver you have and use it like a stethoscope it'll tell you exactly what's whining without having to take off the drive belt.
